one thing to consider....

No one gave him an opportunity to win yesterday.

Nobody gave us a chance to win yesterday. Butch wouldn't burn a redshirt for a player who he didn't think we might need later in the year. What if in the next few weeks we are in a close game and Worley got hurt, would he burn Ferguson's redshirt to maybe give us a chance to win? No. They obviously had a better feeling about Dobbs so they used him.

What is this, Uncle Rico syndrome? Life's sometimes not fair. Dobbs got the call, so fair or not, he's likely the guy who runs the O with Worley from here on out. He looked great. Now he's got the shot to prove he can lead the team. If he fails, then back to square one.

Whatever is best for the team. What next? We have to give Charlie High a full opportunity so he can prove that he can be the guy too? Dobbs was Jones's boy; his recruit.

The one thing about Ferguson that has been speculated was that he was more ready earlier to play than Dobbs, but there was never any mention of whether he had more long term potential than Dobbs, who may have closed that gap if there was even one in the first place, which we don't know.

Dude that doesn't even make sense you know that right. If that was the case the would want to burn his red shirt so he can lock the spot up. They burn Dobbs red shirt and he performs well during the last month and the bowl game then he is a lock to start next year. So no I think they burned his red shirt because they believe he is the future. You put Ferguson in and we have the same problem that we have with Worley. We are running an option with a QB who is not a runner

Who said Dobbs is a better runner than Ferguson?

When did Butch say Josh Dobbs was going to be playing anymore? If he said that then, I guess we will see. If not, chances are Worley is going to continue to play exclusively. Therefore burning your best freshqmn QBs redshirt for a 35 point second half deficit is dumb. If that's hard for you guys to process I feel sorry for you.

If he burned his redshirt and makes him sit behind Worley the rest of the year? He doesn't get it anymore. I would be upset, even "experts" are saying we need to name Dobbs the starter and start building around him for the fUTure.

He said "we'll see who looks better at practice this week" unless he's blind, Dobbs will look better. If by chance Worley does start next week, what happens if he gets hurt in a 21-17 type of game? Would he then burn Ferguson's redshirt to maybe get a win? Why would he burn them both this year? If Dobbs was 3rd on the depth chart, there's no way in hell he would have burned his redshirt and not Ferguson's. To even consider that scenario is pure idiocy.

To my understanding both Dobbs and Ferguson both run pretty good according to their scouting report. Hopefully one of them will take this team and run with it. GO VOLS!

Does this answer your question?

Asked whether Dobbs could find himself in position to start next Saturday when the Vols play at Missouri, Jones said: “Absolutely. He did some good things. He adds something in terms of making plays with his legs.”

Exactly, if you have to burn red shirt on one, it should be the one you think is winning the QB race, even if it is just a slight edge over other QB.

To pretend that Dobbs performance yesterday was anything other than OK is pure idiocy. To not understand that coaches that coaches redshirt players, mainly QBS, to have them as a 5th year player, and not necessarily because they are at the end of the depth chart, is also idiocy.

Not burning it just for a 35 point game, but any game after that. No need for you to put that last sentence in either btw.

Asinine.you do understand that Dobbs can not play in 2017 now while Ferguson can? Do you understand what a redshirt is.

WTF said Ferguson was better? Absolutely nobody! Are you related to him or a friend? Nobody has said anything about one being any better than the other, or one being the long term solution ahead of the other. Not one word.

The entire year, they have been listed as co-holders on the depth chart. Fergy was reportedly a bit ahead when it came to adjusting to the speed of the game early this year, but that's a gap that Dobbs may have made up (and has been speculated that he in fact had done so by some).

Again you don't need to call people idiots, everyone has their own opinion. Also, he did better than numbers show because of drop passes. Also if a QB is that good, they don't usually stay 5 years IMO.

This goofy ass comment was pury idiocy. I never even mentioned his performance yesterday. But i am now, it was lightyears better than any of Worley's.

If burning Dobbs redshirt yesterday means there may be a good chance that Ferguson probably wont be here in 2017.

Its no coincidence that every time It looked like someone besides Worley or Peterman were going to come in, Ferguson was the guy warming up. Dobbs comes in only after halftime. I'd love to hear the conversation between the coaches at the half. I'm betting "who gives us a better chance to win this 0-35 game" was not part of the discussion.
