If the question is, "Would you go to Mars if it was a one-way trip?" then why is, "Yes, only if I could return to Earth," an option?

Sure, why not? Well, except for all the unforeseen challenges that will kill the explorers in the first 72 hours...

No one way ticket for me I'd have to have a plan to get back, I would take the chance if offered to go to Mars.

That was my take. I can see it now, the life support systems reports Oxygen levels right at 20% but forgets to mention the other 80% is an element unique to mars fatal to humans. We can't think of everything, which is why we haven't colonized the bottom of the ocean yet.

Things to do on Mars:

(1) Try to keep warm

(2) Watch the rovers

(3) ??

I would have a few years ago but doubt the wife would go for it now

Ah I see.

I would go for a day or two, given I know I can get back to Earth safely. Definitely would not want to be up there any longer though.

Doesn't it take like 7 years to get there? No way I'm making a 14 year trip for 2 days.

I believe it's about 6 months. Well, for the rovers anyway.

Thought I saw in a movie it was 7 years but (a) that was a movie and (b) that was like 10 years ago and technology changes quite a bit in decade.
