I am looking at getting rid of my 115 dollar cable bill. I guess my question is what are the best ways to stream tv?

Here is what I would like.

I have a child so Disney stuff

Sports. Especially the vols games and I would like the Titans.

We watch a lot of shows on network tv also on USA and cw

I m thinking of keeping basic cable to get my local Chanel's and also to get all the networks for free online streaming so we can watch our shows.

I've also researched sling tv. Any thoughts?

Also any info on Netflix vs Hulu plus vs Amazon prime.

If I'm missing anything or anybody uses something different please let me know.

I have a Sony 4K smart tv with google apps.

Try slingTV. They have a seven day trial period. Basic channels is 20 a month. For 5 more you can add on espn, espn 2, news, u and sec network. I've used it and it's worked great for me. I also use Netflix. Never used Hulu or Amazon prime. Have used kodi with some success as well. But it's definitely on the grey side of legal.

Had Hulu for over a year...barely used it. They are venturing into original programming. Have had Amazon Prime for over 3 years...well worth it (for streaming AND ordering items). Netflix is a mainstay. Gonna start the HBO Now free trial when GOT starts and keep it for the season at least...if it's worth it I'll keep it. Cable and satellite will eventually adapt and let you pick your channels IMO.

If you have DirecTV try cancelling and then see what happens. I was gearing up to go off the Roku with sling tv, and it was pretty cool, but a week after cancelling DirecTV they called me up and gave me the $110 package for $55. They are getting desperate. Try to use that against them.

I've heard the same story from Comcast customers too. Right now you can pretty much call any of them and they'll throw you premium channels and sports packages for less than you're paying now.

I've googled plenty. Thanks tho. I was wanting to get feed back on what's worked for real people. Not just articles from blog companies trying to get clickers. I've read plenty of those.

I'm not on direct tv it's a local provider in west tenn. I don't see them cutting price.

I'm leaning toward sling and Amazon prime.

Does Amazon prime show your network shows the next day or is it like Netflix and you can't get it until the next season?

One thing to keep in mind with Sling is the one device at a time limit.

To the OP... Do you have any friends or family members willing to share a provider login?

I have read about sling being limited to one device but right now that is fine my daughter is only 8 months so she watches on the main tv.

Our main thing is getting to watch our abc cbs nbc and fox shows relatively close to when they air.

If I cut cable all together and just use watch abc watch ESPN ect then we could watch them delayed a week? I read in a comment on some site that sling users can use it like a cable provider to get the watch abc stuff faster like I can now with my cable provider. Is this true?

As of right now I have watch tv anywhere thru my provider. This means on watch abc I get show content the day after it airs and don't have to wait the two weeks (I think it is with them) like a non cable user.

I have Netflix thru a friend at work.

I have roku with hulu (I rarely watch), and Netflix. We give our friends our Netflix code, and they give us their log in fir their satellite. They're here a lot and watch tv with us, so they use our roku as much any way.

I wouldn't worry too much about Disney channels with your daughter right now. Netflix has plenty of kids content including a ton of Disney stuff. Get ready to learn all the jingles of Daniel Tiger. LOL.

Having said that, I use my mom's cable login to access Disney XD to watch Star Wars Rebels with my kids. I can also get Disney Jr and Disney Channel if I want.

Also I have a Mickey Mouse app on my New Apple TV which has all the old cartoon shorts on it for free. Not sure what other platforms that app is available on.

I have kodi on my MacBook I use it for free movies but I've never had luck with live tv and sports. I actually never could get the sports devil to work. Plus it's a pretty grey area and I don't want to use it as my primary source because some of the content is so sketch.

Edit: also my wife hates using it she can't figure it out. Women

Amazon Prime has some 4k material up that would be a good test for your 4k panel.

I've used Kodi before as well and it's pretty hit or miss on links to watch movies/tv shows. There is no way I'd rely on just Kodi to watch live stuff.

Netflix has a ton of stuff for kids. That's really all my 2 kids watch (18 months & 6 years old). Netlix is more for binge watching tv shows. The movies are kind of meh.

Hulu has more current content than Netflix, but there are commercials if you just get the basic package.

I've had Slingtv and it wasn't bad if you have a good internet connection and if there isn't a data cap through your internet service provider.

If I was you I'd get Slingtv and add the sports addon. That will get you covered for everything on ESPN, ESPN 2, ESPN U, and the SEC Network. Then you'll get a handful of movie channels...AMC, Food Network, A&E, History Channel, TNT, HGTV, IFC, Disney, TBS, Travel, CNN, History channel 2, and Cartoon Network. That's pretty, much everything you need. For the local channels I would invest in an antenna for your tv. I think you can get those pretty cheap.

If you go down the Kodi route, I'd suggest getting a Nvida Shield. It's the easist way to install Kodi and it streams the best. Plus you can stream 4K on the Shield. It is pricey though at $199, but you can also play games on it.

My sony tv has google play on it it's an android tv. So after searching through the apps I found that kodi has created an app and it is now on my tv. I was able to get the same addons I have on my mac book. It is way easier to use than mirroring my mac book thru Apple TV.

Once again I'm not going to use that as my primary because it is so hit and miss.

I'm getting an omni directional antenna and sling tv with kodi to watch our network tv shows.

Thanks for all the feed back guys.
