Are there any offensive coaches out there who are capable of running more than one system? It would be nice to see a coach that is creative enough to change things based on his personnel. These days it seems that most coaches, including CJH, only have one system they are capable of running and unless they have the ‘perfect’ players to run it, they are doomed. Everyone keeps making excuses for Heupel that he doesn’t have the right QB, WRs or OL, or whatever. Are coaches capable of adapting and changing their scheme or is at all or nothing, their system or bust? Just curious, are there any coaches out there who have a wide ‘range’ and can run / change to the offensive scheme that is best for their players. Based on what I have seen the last two years, it seems like Heupel is saying “I don’t have the right talent to run my system, therefore I give up and I’m going to reduce my scheme to the same 4-5 plays”. Is creativity a lost art?

I'm not sure I have heard anyone with credibility claiming Heupel doesn't have the right QB or WRs

Heupel has definitely adjusted his offense over the years based on strengths. He may have a philosophy but not sure anyone can truly say he doesn't adjust
He may have adjusted what he calls when but not really the playbook. The last 2 years have been so basic

What happened to 2022’s playbook? I know we need a better offensive line and receivers but we don’t even try Hooker/Hyatt like plays

Most football coaches are not particularly intelligent, but they are very stubborn and have big egos. Heupel doesn’t strike me as an unintelligent egotist, but he does strike me as stubborn about some things, especially with clock management at the end of halves and games.

What basis do you have "that most football coaches aren't particularly intelligent"? At this level, most are extremely intelligent in the business they are in.

With all due respect…… never mind

The qb could get the ball to the wr. We have receivers running wide open every game but just don't hit them. It's not the system

Each year, the roster churns roughly 20-25% of the players. You want the remaining 75% to learn a new system every year?

Coaches who “adapt” typically end up adapting to a new program every few years.

Indeed I wonder how many of these bumbling idiot coaches he must be referring to are making over $5m per year. And to think, if only they were smarter.

So you want him to recruit guys for a specific scheme and then change scheme annually based on his guys….

Huh?

I wish they were more like you. We should probably just hire you, really.

Pruitt equals "most". Seems reasonable
I used an example of a dumb football coach. If you want me to name hundreds of coaches, I’m sorry but I’m not going to do that.

Many coaches wouldn’t have made it in to college without an athletic scholarship, and football coaches specifically likely suffered years of head trauma. I love sports as much as anyone, but let’s not act like it takes a brilliant mind to be a coach.

Penny Hardaway can barely read and has made over 100 mil in his life. He gets paid millions to coach. From an intelligence standpoint, there are far more Penny Hardaways in the coaching profession than Mike Leaches.

Saban was the best coach, ever, to adjust his scheme to his talent. Saban was the 3 yards and a cloud of dust Coach. Saban also hired Lane Kiffen to lead his offense. Look at the WRs Alabama has produced in the last 15 years. Saban will always have my respect for adjusting his scheme to fit the talent base. Other than that I couldn’t stand the guy.
