Only the Pep Band?

I heard on a podcast today that Tennessee was only taking the pep band to Ohio State this Saturday instead of the full POTS? I hope this isn’t true. The entire band should be there playing on the largest stage of the season (so far).
Yeah it’s a big bummer considering State’s band is one of the few other bands that are on the Pride’s level. Would’ve been really cool to see them both on the same field.

Probably has to do with CFP rules and ticket allocations. Probably wasn't up to us
I saw this on the Columbus Dispatch online on game day information. According to the article both bands were given equal time during halftime of 6.5 minutes (last sentence). My understanding is The NCAA runs the show for this. It's surprising to me also that our full POTS might not attend!

Ohio State's marching band has a packed regular schedule for the playoff game.

The Best Damn Band in the Land will hold its usual open outdoor rehearsal at Lincoln Tower Field. However, because it is a night game, what is typically a morning rehearsal will start at 3:30 p.m., said band spokesperson Konner Barr.

Skull Session, the band's final run-through, will kick off at 5:40 p.m. inside St. John Arena. Head Coach Ryan Day, assistant coaches and Buckeye players are expected to make a Skull Session appearance before they head to the stadium. The band will perform its pregame and halftime shows one more time before they march over to the Shoe.

One slight change from the band's regular season pre-game show is that it will do a "double Script Ohio," Barr said.

Both schools' bands will get 6 minutes, 30 seconds to perform as part of the 22-minute halftime. Barr said. TBDBITL will perform its "Pirates of the Shoe" halftime routine, which the band played earlier this season during the Indiana game.

The POTS director is an OSU grad. You know he would want to take the full band to Columbus if it were up to him. Unfortunately, with limited tickets given to the away teams during the first round of the playoffs, there simply aren’t enough seats available for a 415 member marching band.

I know it is killing him too. What a huge missed opportunity to put what are arguably the two best college marching bands in the country on the same field on the same day. We should start a gofundme to buy the rest of the band tickets to the game and transportation.

Another reason 1st round games should be at neutral sites

was not enough tickets in the allocation to take the full band along with all the administrative folks... 2,500 tickets were used for this which includes player family tickets, football staff tickets, athletic department administration, school administration, etc.

If anyone here remembers the UT/ ND game from 1990 in Neyland, ND's band was allowed to perform their pre-game show and it was great. The roar of the crowd when the POTS band came onto the field was near deafening. It was incredible.

This, IMO would've been similar with the bands.

and then there is the TA&M band - - Don't get me wrong. To me there is only the Pride of the Southland. But, The A&M "brigade" is maybe the best in the world. (haven't seen a few from around the world, but most ). As to college bands don't overlook the Jacksonville State band, (Jacksonville Al.) they are nearly as good as A&M but can outplay them or anyone else.

TA&M' band is very good, and very precise. Their performances are spectacular, and their marching skills are as good as any marching band in the world. But their halftime shows are more like a military parade drill, and not a college football entertainment show. Please don't get me wrong, I'm not saying it is bad or that I don't like it. I am just saying that it is very different than the kind of show that the Pride or OSU's band would perform. You are right - Jacksonville State's band is awesome.

I remember playing with the FCHS band in freezing weather (last century) and at the end of our routine we did an instrument snap and a couple of our trumpet players bloodied their lips when chunks of meat got pulled out. And, It wasn't 16 degrees!

I need an "unlike" button - not for you but for the thought that enough tickets were not available for a game of this magnitude in a stadium that seats over 100,000 to allow for those folks plus the full band and a reasonable number of season ticket holders.

Next year the CFP needs to do better with this.

I can’t offer personal expertise, but I saw a list of top marching bands some years ago that had A&M, the Pride, the OSU band, Stanford, and I believe USC as the top 5, can’t remember in what order.

Yep - I remember that. I was not sure how to take that, as the Stanford band is not what I would consider a real band and performs at games almost as a joke. I would say that minus Stanford, the remaining four are some of the best.
