Ok, first off, I'm a huge Vol football fan. Grew up in a home where UT football was tradition. Never followed UT BBall until recently with the success of Pearl. I am an alumnus of Wichita State, so naturally I'm a huge WSU fan, and sadly, but almost in my favor, we don't have a football program, so my allegiance to UT football is never in question. As I had to take sides with WSU when we played UT in the tournament in 06.

However being a die hard follower of Valley basketball, I can say that Martin is a great hire for our beloved Vols. He turned around a pathetic Mo State team, into a team that was dreaded by my Shox. I think we will have success against in conference play, with the way CCM runs his defense. The Shox play a very up tempo, athlete driven game plan. We press often, and we score in transition a lot. Similar to what a lot of SEC teams play. The Valley is one of the most unentertaining conferences to watch, because they all play slow tempo, defense first, types of gameplans. CCM is no exception to this rule. WSU lost both times we played MSU, and it was all due to the fact that MSU played hard nosed D, and would never let us score in transition. I think he will be great in the SEC. Will it be as entertaining of a game, as the Pearl era? I'd say with out a doubt, no it won't be as entertaining. Will we have as many up and down stretches in the season? Probably not. I think CCM will bring stability to a program that seemed to have hardly any stability, even down to what quality of playing was put out on the court game to game.

CCM from everything I've read through the last couple years, point to him being a stickler for rules, discipline, and winning. I think that during this time of unknown for UT, that CCM will bring everything we need to fulfill getting back to prominence nationally on a skill level, as well as respectability.

I view the CCM hire similar to the Dooley hire. Get a guy who knows the rules, doesn't deviate from them, and will add stability to the program not only in respect, but rules compliance. Obviously a massive problem with Pearl.

I'd also like to say that as a Shocker fan, I'm glad CCM is out of The Valley, and can maybe help our chances of winning the league and conference tourney next year, and hopefully in the next few years as well. Oh and also its fun to see MSU fans crying their little hearts out because their great coach that would bring them championships is gone.

TL;DR Good hire, exactly what we needed.

Well an informed opinion. Apparently Martin has ultimate respect in the midwest and that is certainly great to hear.

I like it, and as soon as his name was mentioned I thought to myself, "That is just like hiring Dooley"

He will continue to build on the foundation that Bruce started. I am 100% confident in CCM's ability to succeed at this level.

Anyone heard if he'll continue the orange blazer tradition?

He always used to wear some epic suits on the sideline. He's a fan of the 3 piece suit, with the longer sport coats. He has some impressive style haha.

sounds boring

Like I said, typical Valley basketball is boring. Slow paced, methodical. So yes, you're right. However, there is a reason why Valley teams have good success if they make it to the dance, typically. Its because the big time programs who rely on athletes and skill, can't get past the methodical defenses that are typical in the Valley.

Thats why I say CCM's style will do well in the SEC. I think he might give Coach Cal a run for his money.

And to everyone else, thanks for the nice words.

After a year, how do you guys like CCM? Was my analysis fairly spot on? I will admit I only watched a couple Basketvols games this year.

We had brief glimpses of it this year.
Thought most of the games we won were pretty damn exciting.

Definitely showed it doesn't have to be full court press games in the 80's to be exciting.

Personally I like this new brand.

Love what Martin is doing. His recruiting is starting to really hit off. Going to be back in the tourney as a top 25 team next year.

I just don't think half-court sets are boring when they're executed well.

THANK YOU! Me either! It's a thing of beauty and makes you really respect the game a ton more to see a coach calling plays in the halfcourt and them being executed correctly!

Great call Shox. Hard nosed defense is something we appreciate here at Tennessee
