One of the the things that has made most excited about "Butch Ball" is how we are growing into a team that embodies Neyland's maxims.

For example, Maxim #2: "Play for and make the breaks and when one comes your way - SCORE."

In the Florida game, we capitalized on Driskel's poor throw by taking it to the house (thank you Swafford!). But there were so many other "breaks" where we absolutely fumbled (both figuratively and literally!) that it looked like Dooley Ball (How many times did we have a chance to make a play and a win under Dooley, but failed?)

Against Georgia, we seized opportunities left and right.
Punt block for a TD.
Defensive penalty by GA when we were punting, giving us 4th and 1 - Neal then reeled off a 43-yard run.
We get the ball with 5 or 6 minutes left, tied 24-24, and we drive down to score.

We are on our way to the top - let's enjoy the ride!

Good post and I could not agree more! That is the one thing I have really noticed a difference with the defense this year vs last year. When they have the opportunity to make a big play, they capitalize! I am so ready for next Saturday!

Good post. I like the fact that CBJ seems so willing to learn from other coaches. The relationships that he is obviously building with Majors and Fulmer, as well as putting so much emphasis on Neylands maxims, can only bode well for him. I'm excited about the future of our program, and really believe we got the right coach this time.

We are on our way up, week by week. We are not there yet, but I believe negavols are going to start getting more and more confused, because we have started improving.

I agree with everything and just wanted to add about the vast improvement in the Special teams play.

That has been a great improvement. Now if we can get Devrin healthy again maybe we can see a punt taken back to the house! I am not taking anything away from what Jacob has been doing but I am ready to see Devrin back there again!

On another note I would have loved to see what Butch could have done with Hunter and Patterson!

With Worley? Not bashing but I just don't know. Really not being negative.

I think a lot more of his struggles had to do with all of our young receivers then people realize. He may never light it up but I think once him and our young receivers get on the same page he will look like a different qb. (Or so I hope)!

Those NegaVols could turn into Zombie Vols if we keep playing well and they won't know how to act.

No worries, I know what you mean. Worley's had a shaky start, I'll give you that, but inopportune drops by the receivers have absolutely done a number on his confidence. Heck, our most talented freshman wideout dropped a sure-fire TD pass against Georgia. CP and Hunter would have at least given this offense a chance. And it would have been amazing to watch the guy that is currently tearing up NFL special teams running through punt returns like it was nothing.

Can't really argue with anything you said. GO VOLS!

In addition to the above listed maxim these two also stick out to me:

#1 - The team that makes the fewest mistakes will win.
We are the least penalized team in the SEC right now in terms of yds/game. SEC team penalties | Saturday Down South

#6 - Press the kicking game. Here is where the breaks are made.
Michael Palardy turnaround..... enough said

Least penalized team is always a good thing. It also kinda lets you know the refs aren't out to destroy you. :)
