Remember Opryland? Maybe it's just the kid in me but I think the Nashville area would do well to think about a country music themed park. I heard a couple of years ago that Dolly Parton was considering partnering with financial backers to make this concept a possibility. Anyone other than me think this would be a moneymaker?

In the right location it would...I mean the Nashville area is busting at the seams now, and has a lot of tourism, and a lot of money, a really good park with top notch attractions would make a killing if done right, in the right location. If done cheap and cheesy it would be a huge failure.

I was lucky enough to work at Opryland as a teen. You cannot imagine how much fun we had. A park full of other teens from all over the Nashville area in a safe confined environment. After we got older and was of age, we'd work all day in the park then go out for beers, repeat. 50 hours a week. I hate that there is nothing like this for my kids to work in.

I worked in wardrobe from '84-'86 handing out uniforms and etc. it was an awesome job. I didn't have to wear a uniform or deal with the public and unless I had to go back to the laundry area for something it was air conditioned. I also got to meet dang near everyone that worked there as they came through twice a day.

Nashville shores and wave country. Top notch classy joints especially the second one.

First roller coaster I ever rode was the Wabash Cannonball at Opryland.

I miss Opryland. I also miss Libertyland in Memphis and Elvis Presley's favorite roller coaster, the Zippin Pippin.

Screamin Delta Demon
Grizzly River Rampage
Chaos
Tin Lizzies
Flume Zoom

We had season passes as kids and spent many days of summer there. Great memories

What was that huge cargo net/ball pit play area thing called?

My brother and I lived in that thing every time we went.

And I was obsessed with the Tin Lizzies. I was 9 but could drive. Absolutely heaven to a kid.

I'm pretty sure it ended up at Carowinds. I forget the name, but there was no mistaking that corkscrew double loop.

No. It was scrapped in the early 2000’s. I remember hearing about it. I loved traveling up to Opryland as a kid. And then we had liberty land in Memphis. Great times as a kid

Waredrobe had a smell that I can't describe. Not quite dry cleaner but close. If I'm out and get a whiff brings a smile to my face. And there's the underlying smell of kitchen towels. I still smell grease and grill brick to this day. And I wish to hell I could smell it again.

We could probably fill a thread with O-land stories

I used to hate when it was my turn to work the towel bags. We had to count the dirty ones that came back at the end of the night. That could be some repugnant mess at times.
What part of the park did you work in? I use to know just about everyone's pant and shirt size from getting their uniforms so often.....the big bonus was getting to work the girls counter.

New Orleans area. I probably gave you duffle bags with towels. We had to fold those nasty things in tens.

Good call on working the girl side of the counter. One nice thing was there was a large number of girls working there that were quite pleasing to the eye.

I dont know about you but the friends I made there are still some of my greatest friends. I know so many people that went to Mt Juliet HS I've threatened to crash their reunions. Mt Juliet, Hendersonville, McGavock, Dickson Co..... the list of schools goes on.

That was one of the best things about working there. You met people from everywhere in middle Tennessee. When did you work there? Did you know anyone that worked in wardrobe?
