Seeing a whole bunch of different folks commenting on lack of importance of non-CFP bowls, opt-out’s, etc. Also quite a bit of chat about how CFB is being destroyed by NIL, portal, and the general “professionalization” of the sport many of us have enjoyed for many years.

I do think that there are only certain things that a fan has absolute control over - their willingness to cheer/follow their team regardless of “sickness or health,” their willingness to cheer and support their team once they take the field, and their determination not to allow external changes to shake their faith or love of their team or sport.

All that said, I hope VN will enjoy the Orange Bowl as much as I enjoyed watching an older version of our team competing and winning Sugar (Sugar Vols) and Cotton (against Arkansas) bowls while I was still a student. While I’d agree that it may be too hard to sway the minds of today’s players as a fan (that’s really the coaches job), I don’t plan to waiver in my support of our team even when a championship trophy isn’t at stake. I just enjoy our team taking on a challenge, win or loose.

All my Best VN for a very Happy Christmas and New Years… there’s plenty to be excited about as we move forward.

Go VOLS!

Hope we play well.

We are hemorrhaging players right now and after obviously playing a quality team who does not seem to be losing as much.

It will be all on Milton’s shoulders. As we’re not running on Clemson like we did Vanderbilt

I'm hoping for a breakout performance by Milton that demonstrates that hes the guy to lead the team to success next year.
That's a hope, not a prediction.

I would welcome a performance similar to HH, but he was special and having that back to back would be unlikely. He needs to be workmanlike and execute the game plan provided. He has all the physical tools, but different levels of field presence are what they are. He COULD mix in some spectacular throws, but that special consistency HH had is unlikely, by most anybody.

I really hope I'm wrong but I think Clemson wins this one.

Too many of our players opting out.

35-21
I really hope you're wrong also. I met a man in Destin,FL walmart wearing Clemson gear, me in a true shade of orange. We struck up a conversation and parted friends. Met a man in Clemson gear on the Carolina Beach pier biggest jerk I ever met. Claimed Tennessee would never have enough class to deserve being on the field with the Dabo boys. I'm hoping we pin 60 on them and hold them to a missed field goal. Go Vols

I’d be fine with Milton not throwing any passes over twenty yards. Just let our receivers and running backs do the leg work.

For those we haven't viewed, sharing an article on why Greg McElroy thinks this bowl is important and could define Vols overall season. I would have to agree from sports broadcaster standpoint. This is our chance to leave a final exclamation point on the season!

Former Alabama QB explains why Vols' Orange Bowl matchup against Clemson is more important than fans realize (atozsports.com)

Agreed 100%. Although many look at this game as meaningless, it is a huge moral booster and confidence builder with a "W". This game means everything to this program. The final exclamation is a perfect way to sum up the importance of this game.

Clemson has been in the CFP basically every year since it's inception. Beating them is HUGE.

There are a lot of players that have a lot to prove on our team as well. Milton being the obvious.

LET'S GO UT!!!!!

Many players on the Clemson side line opting out as well. Plus their roster is riddled with injury. Might I add, Clemson will be playing with a backup QB as well. This game will be a good one between two pretty evenly matched opponents.

With our hunger for long overdue success, I think this gives us an advantage. Success is nothing new to Dabo and Clemson. A motivated TN team in Miami with much of college football media writing you off, that's motivation!!!!

This is not going to be the same team we had during the season. This is basically to me a preseason game for next year and another audition for Milton

because of that I have no idea what to expect

Interesting the line is moved to 5.5 now though

Being at the Music City Bowl last year and watching the wonderful ACC refs, it is one game. We lost a Heisman deserving QB, the Biketnikoff Award winner is preparing for the NFL along with a starting linebacker. This game won’t define this great season but regardless of the outcome, my hope is the Vols leave everything on the field. Talking heads are paid to create interest.

It's on every UT players shoulders. If our D doesn't stop their O, then this game is on the Defenses shoulders. If Joe has zero completions, then we can shift some of the blame to him. GBO

I agree, this game doesn't define our great success this season, but it sure as heck can be a nice cherry on top!!!

The bolded part is really funny to me for some reason. I guess you didn't see the ACC championship game
