Wow, that was quite the drubbing that Oregon took on Saturday. Clearly Mark Helfrich is in trouble. Another one of those "inside" hires to maintain consistency in the program. But, he signed a 5-year extension earlier this year. Crazy.

The guy really hasn't had success anywhere. I'm an ASU alum, and he was there as part of the whole Dirk Koetter debacle. Wonder how the Oregon fans are feeling?

....probably pretty good thanks to the legalization of a certain banned substance. :p

Andrew Walter holds all of your school records for passing under his tutelage and play calling.

Why are they suddenly wanting to fire him after one bad loss? He's had great success so far there, no?

I lived in Phoenix for a few years and went to some ASU games. Was Walter playing when Terrell Suggs was there? I remember going to the UNC game where Suggs arrived on the national stage with a ton of sacks.

I am amazed at the failure rate of former Boise State coaches once they left for "bigger" jobs (Houston Nutt, Dirk Koetter, Dan Hawkins, and perhaps Chris Petersen).

Houston Nutt did a solid job at Arky and Petersen will do fine in Seattle.

I don't know how many are actually wanting to fire him. Quarterback and secondary have been a mess so far this season.

Helfrich is just another Coker. Takes over a dominate team, reaps the benefits for a couple of years, then he is exposed.

Wouldn't go that far yet. They had every opportunity to beat MSU in East Lansing. Lets not act like the'ye awful.

Yes, Walter was there then. That was a huge year for Suggs...and I think he had 3 or 4 sacks against UNC; I think Walter threw for nearly 500 yards. Too bad we ended up losing that game.

Interesting observation about the Boise State coaching success elsewhere. They do seem to have a track record of mediocrity.

making it to the national championship game isn't considered success?

I did caveat Petersen by saying perhaps.

I don't think Houston did as well as many had hoped. I think he reached the SEC West title game at Arkansas but had a losing record at Ole Miss.

He did a respectable job at Arkansas. His first two years at Ole Miss were pretty good, The last two were horrible.
