I honestly thought this was a joke at first. The Fighting Donald Ducks?

Since when did Oregon affiliate themselves with Walt Disney?

I love the old Donald Duck logo, but this is one of the silliest things I've ever seen.

I agree that these are actually way better than the crap they've been trotting out.

And their 2009 "throwbacks" should be their fulltime uniforms.

I was halfway kidding but I never knew the part about Walt Disney. Interesting

Walt Disney never really made it official so a few years ago Disney's lawyer sent a cease and desist letter to Oregon but Oregon responded with a picture of Walt Disney himself wearing Oregon apparel with the Donald Duck logo and Disney Corp dropped the matter.

Almost as good as mark cuban's response to a law suit threatening him for doing a poor job running the mavs with a picture of him holding the title trophy.

Or the cops sending a guy a red light cam pic of him speeding, and him sending them a pic back of a $100 bill.

But then they sent him a pic of handcuffs, so nevermind...

That's not what happened at all.

They had an informal agreement to use Donald's "Brother" as the mascot, but had extremely limited rights to license the logo for apparel and to change the look of the mascot in any way.

Nike wanted to do a complete mascot redesign around the version that wears a helmet and rides the motorcycle. The University feared that if they moved away from the traditional Donald "brother" that they would never be able to re-claim it in the future.

This led to the University and Disney to finally formalize the agreement, outlining what could and could not be done with the mascot and related logos. It gave Oregon much wider use and flexibility with the mascot, and allowed for a slight updating. It also assured that the costumed mascot would always present himself in a way that was "Consistent with Disney's value." Disney receives a very small licensing fee.
