Oregon self imposes

My thoughts? I think that they're sending a firm message to the rest of the NCAA. A message that is unprecedented. A message that clearly sounds like the following:

"Ooooops, we got caught, so the rest of you learn from this and cover your asses better than we did."

I certainly could be mistaken but the articles that I read suggest that these are not self-imposed penalties per se. Rather, they could be construed as a trial balloon, one indicating what Oregon is willing to self-impose, with the hope that the NCAA will be satisfied and not impose harsher sanctions.

A local sports radio station here in DC simply called this "the cost of doing business as an NCAA football power". You do what it takes to get to the top, pay your short term punishment, and count all the money rolling in all day long. The coach that pulled it off also then gets a nice gig in the NFL out of it (e.g. Carroll, Kelly).

its almost better to just cheat, get a few players, and make a run. Nothing really ever happens and many top programs coming off probation aren't as negatively affected as you would think
