Could make our first big game next year a little easier....

The Sideline View's Adam Caplan reports that Oregon head coach Chip Kelly is the Browns' "clear No. 1 choice" for the team's head-coaching vacancy.

Browns owner Jimmy Haslam is ready to spend big and is willing to give the next head coach "final say" over player personnel decisions. That is exactly what Kelly has reportedly been seeking if he makes the jump from the college ranks to the NFL. This would seem to be bad news for Brandon Weeden's future in Cleveland as he doesn't seem to fit Kelly's mold for an athletic quarterback. The Browns roster is also viewed as one of the best - if not the best - among the teams with vacancies at the top.

It has to be. Everybody knows Saban is going to the Browns

It would be nearly as idiotic to hire Saban. Hiring Kelly seems insane.

If they do, we'll know why the Vols coaching situation has been ridiculous.

I think Haslam has the wrong Kelly. If he wants a college coach with last name of Kelly he should go after Brian Kelly.

Was hoping he'd make a run for Saban...it would get him out of the SEC at least, LOL

Highly doubt it'll be the Browns. Regardless, when he decides I want him to do the whole college recruit thing and choose from several hats

Evidently the Philadelphia Eagles also want Chip Kelly and will interview him very soon.

Per Rotoworld:

Oregon coach Chip Kelly confirmed in Thursday night's post-Fiesta Bowl press conference that he is open to leaving college for the NFL.

"I'll listen and we'll see," said Kelly, who's already scheduled to interview with the Eagles, Browns, and Bills. "I want to get it wrapped up quickly and figure out where IÂ’m gonna be." Kelly's fourth-ranked Ducks destroyed fifth-ranked Kansas State 35-17 on Thursday. It's fully expected to be his final college game.

I have a strong feeling that Kelly will go to the NFL this year. Not sure why, but in some the interviews he just seems like he is headed that way. I could be wrong... and it wouldn't be the first time.

He doesn't stay in one place very long so it very well could happen.

I don't know much about Kelly's coaching career. I just get that sense, from interviews, he is wanting to try the NFL.

Actually nevermind, I was thinking of Brian Kelly who doesn't stay in one place very long.

Chip Kelly was at New Hampshire for 12 years then Oregon's OC for a year before becoming HC of the ducks.

Another update...Browns would be the best spot for him as they have quite a bit of talent. Just need a QB to fit his style of play:

According to the Cleveland Plain Dealer, the Browns will be prepared to make Oregon coach Chip Kelly "an offer he can't refuse" if this weekend's interview goes well.

Browns CEO Joe Banner is prepared to move aggressively because he knows that Eagles owner Jeffrey Lurie -- his former boss -- is hot on Kelly's trail as well. To maintain peak leverage, Kelly will want to meet with the Eagles and Bills before deciding whether Cleveland's offer is truly one he can't refuse. Per ESPN's Adam Schefter, Kelly will interview with Buffalo on Friday. The Plain Dealer expects the Browns' interview with Kelly to take place on the same day. According to the Sideline View's Adam Caplan, Kelly already has his eye on NFL assistants in preparation for an Oregon exit.

Can anyone provide specifics regarding the rumors that the NCAA is expected to seriously examine Oregon's program? Needless to say, if there is truth to those rumors, that could also prompt a Pete Carroll-like exodus to the NFL.

Thanks. On the surface, it doesn't sound as egregious as the Reggie Bush fiasco at USC, but, yes, methinks that a "get-out-of-Dodge-as-fast-as-is-humanly-possible" strategy is definitely on the horizon for Kelly.

He's definitely pulling a Pete Carroll. Get your big money. Succeed and ride the wave of way less stringent rules in the NFL. Fail and paint yourself as more of a college guy and go to your next stop. Sounds like a win-win for Kelly.
