I’m not no tree humper I’m just curious if anyone in the east tn area on here has solar for their home. Curious if you think it’s worth it? Did you DIY?

TVA has a lot of free information and help.
Do they? Haven’t seen that. I’ll check it out. Thanks for the tip. I saw a link from NREL tried checking it out. It’s a little more confusing than I understood but I’ll see what I can figure out.

Do not let them penetrate your roof! Every penetration point is a potential leak in the future. The new tech uses a saddle-like roof mounting system.

If I had the bucks, I would go for the pole mounted System in the front yard that auto rotates to face the sun. A lot easier to maintain and repair, imo. Lots of pros and cons no matter which way you go.

Yeah, if you have enough space outdoors, the free-standing panel is the way to go if you are actually generating and storing energy. If all you want is solar-heated water, I imagine the roof makes more sense.

Echoing VolNExile's comments, plus if you're able to go with a ground-mounted system it would likely make any future maintenance/repairs/upgrades a lot easier (and potentially less expensive from a labor standpoint).
