Putting aside the bickering over a silly game for the moment, it has been a pretty brutal 12 hours for those of us in the Nashville area. I know we have a lot of posters there, and many of you have friends and family there. I sincerely hope everyone made it through ok...

16 of the 22 reported deaths were in Putnam county, east of Nashville. The tornado hit while folks were asleep and probably many lives were saved in Davidson county due to the sirens installed after the 1998 tornado. In Davidson county, part of the path was in the same East Nashville neighborhood as the 1998 tornado.

Thanks so much DV for the good wishes. I did not know you were here in Tune Town as well. We are at the top of a big hill just south of downtown and from our second floor watched the wedge move west to east through downtown. Very scary and feel so bad for the neighborhoods hit, especially east Nashville which was devastated about 20 years ago by another tornado. Also hoping for safety for the folks east of Nashville. It looks like Putnam county had a heartbreaking loss of life. Perspective check for sure. Peace.

Just heard from Wilson county officials and if the tornado had hit during the noon hour today, the loss of life would have been substantial because of the industry buildings and schools that were severely damaged.

Darth, I didn't know you lived in Nashville. I'm happy you are ok. Watching Nashville get slammed again was harsh. The storm got even worse as it went east. Seemed like it was following I-40 east all the way to Knoxville. I hope all our posters are safe and did not suffer loss. I'm on the west side of Nashville and did not even lose a tree branch - feeling very lucky.

Rough day indeed, spent the morning making sure family who all live in the tornado zone were ok, which thank God they were. Dried some tears this afternoon seeing the family roots neighborhood, Lockeland Springs, in splinters.

My sister moved from Mt. Juliet 3 years ago to South Carolina.....all her kids still live around Nashville, Columbia and Murfreesboro. They are all involved in the music industry. They checked in as safe so I feel for the others who are suffering. The entire state of Tennessee is beautiful and I hate to see anything like this happen to such great people. I was in Nashville when the last tornado hit....I am thinking 2003 or 2004...seems like it was somewhere around then. Scary to say the least.

Not funny
As my father, a WWII combat-injured veteran of the D-Day invasion used to say, "Son, you have to find the humor in any situation, no matter how dire. It's the only way to maintain your sanity."

The problem with that saying is....not everyone finds the same things humorous....

Don't defend it, Ed

We all get the Wizard of Oz reference, but the timing is wrong and as much as I have a disdain for Darth at times,
I wish for him nothing but safety and no calamity for his kindred.

Just found out a family friend lost loved ones in the storm. A beautiful young family. So damn sad.

I have a stepdaughter who lives 13 miles from Cookeville. She said it's really bad there. I'm sorry to hear about your friend's loss

What would be the proper time then?
I've had my share of encounters with hurricanes - Rita and Ike in Texas and (massive) Typhoon Tip in '79 while stationed in Okinawa.
They did enough damage to my dwellings and personal property to incite a healthy contempt in me for any form of big, windy storm.
Not to mention the devastation suffered by friends and family.
Therefore, I make fun of them. Yes - because they blow. But not in a good way.
