depends.

if the 100 point, 100K is the new penalty in NASCAR regardless, then it works for me.

I agree, what is right for one, is right for all. Same punishments across the board.

Seems a bit severe to me, the only precedent to the infraction was in Nationwide series. The teams caught were penalized 25 pts. I'm not sure how to compare it with other past penalties as to equal in nature. Of course NASCAR has enough wiggle room in their rules to do whatever they want.

NASCAR has a history of making and changing rules as they go. Kind of reminds you of a certain HFC. IMO the penalty is to harsh. This wasn't done intentionally. That is where I have had and will always have an issue with Helton and company. The latest Robbie Gordon incident is a perfect example. So if someone blatantly gains an advantage they suffer the same penalty? I don't believe Osborne did this on purpose. I believe it had to work its way loose. My question would be had this been one of the Golden Children....what would of happened. We have seen many cars fail post race because of issues that happened during the race and little or nothing at all happened. I'm sure Edwards told them to leave it loose so he could be exposed to all the fumes!

It is severe, but it does seem the 100 points will be the standard.I don't know that I agree with the additional 10 bonus points though.

The bonus points for the chase is the most important part. If he got to keep the bonus points than more teams would cheat before the chase to get a win and have more points starting out in the chase. The 100 points is a non-factor. Jimmy, Jeff, and Kurt were all fined 100 points before the chase and still made it in. If the team is strong enough 100 points is nothing. Even if they were not cheating, having the lid off is a safety issue to the driver and the penalty should help correct someone's absent-minded stupidity and keep this mistake from reoccouring.

Every time David Ragan takes the green flag its a safety issue! Maybe they will start docking him points!

If you are going to start taking points away for putting drivers at risk then the Woods Brothers should be a lock to make the chase!

I have to agree with McLovin, the 10 bonus pts. are excessive and unprecedented. It is almost certainly an inadvertant infraction as they would not endanger their driver intentionally. They have reversed R. Gordon's penalty due to his infraction being inadverdant, where is the difference? I still think 100 pts. is severe, and could make a difference, only time will tell. NASCAR needs to standardize it's penalty procedure IMO. I have watched several post race shows and heard several analyst say it is severe. I have not heard one say it is fair.

:lolabove:If they started with Ragan, they would have to include a few more as well.

Nascar has been consistant, every penalty with the COT has been 100 points, $100,000.00 dollars, and the crew chief being suspended for 6 weeks. How is that not consistant? They penalize the teams and then let them go through the appeal process. Why not take the bonus points? He won with a car that MAY of had an advantage and won the race. Several experts said that it could allow the car to handle better and could keep the oil cooler and allow the engine to produce a few more horsepower. NASCAR is just erroring on the side of caution.
