I was 6 years old the first time I remember seeing the Big Orange in a Bowl game. (1979) We hadn't been to a bowl in 5 years, so I don't remember the 1974 game against Maryland. (I was only 1)

But I remember in the 1980's, all of our Bowl games were close games except one (1986)

Since 1992, only 2 of our bowl games have been close games. (1996 and 1999)

The rest have been blowouts.

We either blow someone out (2002 against Michigan, for example) or get blown out (2002 against Mayrland, for example) Wow, that's weird, blow out Michigan and get blown out by Maryland in the same year.

Every SINGLE one has been a BLOWOUT.

Wonder why that is?:dunno:

I don't know if it has anything to do with anything, but IMO the BCS has relegated all bowl games, other than the championship game, to a pretty much meaningless status. The only importance is getting into a bowl game.

prolly has a lot to do with the lay off from regular season to bowl games...some teams get it and some don't, and it changes year to year....we've had bowl games where you can tell we really prepared well, and we've others, well, that you could tell it looked like we slept walked thru bowl game prep.

All I meant by my prior post is that by getting in you get the extra practices. If a team really gets drilled badly by a seemingly inferior opponenet I guess it could be used for some last seond negative recruiting but otherwise the bowls don't mean much.

Winning your bowl game really can help out your preseason ranking for the next year, though. I think our demolition of Texas A and M was a big part of why we were ranked so high in 2005. Also, it's a great reward for the players to enjoy a little vacation and get some free stuff after a long hard season of football.

This probably isn't the case for UT overall, but this century, it seems as if UT plays to the level of the bowl. When UT feels they were snubbed, they sucked hard in the bowl, but when they are around where they weren't meant to be, they own (Mich, A&M, etc).
