I thought our performance against Oklahoma was due to our OT injuries and it’s now clear that I was wrong. The o line can’t open running lanes against a light box, Nico has no time and is inconsistent even when he does have time. WR’s can’t get separation and drop too many passes. I don’t have the answer but Heupel needs to find the path forward quickly or more embarrassing losses are incoming.

No down the field throwing, no slants, no taking advantage of the middle of the field. Teams tend to pick up on how to stop the inside zone and wr screen. The defense can’t hold forever. Better figure something out, and quick. Or there will be a few more ugly games and dumb losses like last night.

Let’s hope the team prepares better this week. The coaches have to develop passing plays that don’t require 3-5 seconds to develop. The OL can’t keep defenders out of Nico’s face that long. Arky has given all of the future opponents the blueprint how to disrupt our game

I believe Venables delivered the blueprint.

2022 - Golesh
2023 - no Gloesh
2024 - no Golesh

I wasn’t sure last year, but trends are there now.
OL struggles and wide receivers could be equally responsible. Not to mention, we haven’t had a qb as poised and consistent as Hooker. I think Nico can be that guy, but he isn’t there yet.

Had you told me that at any point in Heupels tenue we'd be talking about a top ranked defense and an offense that is sputtering for the 2nd year in a row, I'd have volunteered to drive you to the looney bin.
I feel like we are in cuckoo bananas land right now. What is our team identity at this point?

This.. our identity was the stacked receiver look back in 2022 under Golesh… last year not as much, plus we were scared to throw over the middle we thought because of Milton. Last night looked exactly like that. No passes over the middle, no screens, hardly any tight ends streaking down the middle. If it’s not to the sideline it’s a deep pattern that’s taking too long to develop. And it appears Nico is afraid to pull the trigger if his receivers aren’t wide open.

But if this is truly Heupel’s offense and he Is really calling the shots anyway, then what offense does he really want to run? The offensive line was not great during Hendon’s year either. But you can’t deny the difference in approach since Golesh left.
