We haven't scored 50 points on an opponent since 11/15/2003

No 50 point games in 01

No 50 point games in 02

No 50 point games last year

No 50 point games this year

We scored in the 50's, 60's and even 70's 18 times in the 8 years before 2001, and only 2 times from 2001 until present.

I'm not saying offense wins games, but with a defense like we have now, We would be totally dominating people with the offense we used to have.

I wonder where it went. :(

I don't know, I'll play your silly little game. Where is our exlosive offense??

J/K. I agree, coupled with our defense now. We would kill em all.

Also i beleive during Cutcliffe's tenure, the ppg avg. was 34 and it was 17 a couple weeks ago, but probably lower now.

for some reason our play calling gets more conservative every year. either because sanders was promoted or fulmer has little faith in his players or maybe alittle of both.

With the talent that Ut gets every year, they should own the Sec and be a top 5-10 team every year. I think the staff up there really holds alot of players back from ever coming close to their full potential.

It's not playcalling that is different.

1-I think our quarterbacking was significantly better then.
2-We had better offensive staffs
3-Sanders can't organize an offense

Randy Sanders. He stinks! He has a hard time calling a play, inserting personel and snapping the ball in the alloted time. Let alone calling the correct play!

Here's a question to answer?

What happens to a team when the Head Coach doesn't allow his coaches to coach and continually disrupts?

well, as far as talent goes, i dont see it.
receivers can't beat coverage. running backs dont break tackles. offensive linemen can't block to open holes for the running backs or give the quarterback time to look down field for late developing routes. offensive linemen can't keep still before the snap. receivers aren't beating coverage.
have you ever thought that maybe tennessee's players are just overrated at this time?? just because they have a "T" on their helmet doesn't mean that they play with the skill and intensity of those before them by default. these players dont even have discipline off of the field. many of them walk around with attitudes like they are the greatest athletes in the world, and they have yet to prove it on the field. the rest of the SEC has caught up in the "talent" department, and now their win-loss record shows it. Last but not least, tennessee needs a real quarterback!! and riggs was overrated too.

blame the indivdual coaches first, not sanders. he is the play caller. yes, he has some of the blame (delay of game penalties), but it's not his job to teach the players how to play their positions. he calls the plays based on how well his players can execute them.

rick clausen nor erik ainge are capable of running plays like peyton manning, tee martin, or even casey clausen.

if you want to blast me, here is your chance. i liked casey clausen. he was a true gun slinger. i believe the talent of receivers was slightly better in his time, but he at least had the ability to stretch the field. also we had a decent running game to keep the defense honest. he wasn't perfect, but damn near led us to a national championship game versus miami if it weren't for the defensive meltdown against LSU.

i'm sure nothing has changed in the offensive system (other than not deciding on a quarterback) since fulmer has been the head of the show. players have changed. when we have a talented team, we do well, and when we dont we have years like 2005.

IF YOU KNOW ANYTING ABOUT FOOTBALL, SANDERS WOULD NOT BE THE FIRST PERSON GETTING THE BLAME. LOOK AT ALL OF THE FACTORS THAT GO INTO MAKING AN OFFENSE SUCCESSFUL BESIDES PLAY-CALLING.

bottom line: we CANT run the ball, so defenses can concentrate solely on exotic coverages and blitzes to shut down our "short" passing game (since clausen doesn't have the arm strength to go over the top).

How many SEC teams have put up over 40 against another SEC team this year?

UF did it to UK - that's all I can come up with right now.

UF used to do it, UGA used to do it, etc. etc.

Not saying our O doesn't suck but SEC D's are dominating right now.

I put this in another thread -

We were over-rated. We had QB problems without knowing it but the signs were there last year - Ainge struggled at times as did RC. We scored 10 points (offensively) against Bama at home, 13 against ND (not a great defense), 19 against UGA, 10 against Aub. and got our big numbers against the likes of SC, UK, Vandy and a clearly outmatched TAMU (UF as well but that D didn't gel). We had a better running game due to ability to use Riggs and Houston and we had better QB play with 3 to choose from with both Ainge and Schaeffer playing well when the other wasn't.

It doesn't explain the drop over the years but does explain (to some degree) last year and this year.
