i think its time for a reality check.

We dont have one of the best receiving corps in the nation.
I'm not sure we even have a good receiving corp.

I think the reality is we have a pretty average group of guys with lots of athletic ability who probably drop more balls then any other group of receivers in the conference.

They are making are OC and our QB look a lot worse then they are. If you really want to point the finger at one area for our poor offensive performance, this is a really good place to start.

Here's hoping you're wrong and our corps of receivers invested in some Fred Biletnikof stickem!!!

You may be right, they do drop a lot of passes. We are sold on how great they are by the coaching staff and media hype. Are we sure that they are getting good coaching at those positions. I think Pat Washington handles those duties. I'd like to hear more opinions on this subject. :geek:

I look for alot more of Lucas Taylor tomarrow, Ja'Kouri Williams has also practiced with the recievers this week, may see him line up wide.

Speaking of our receivers, (pardon me if this has been discussed), but has anybody heard anything substantial about CJ Faytons availability on Saturday, besides that he's questionable?

Thanks.

The only thing ive read, said the ankle is still bothering him but he's determined to play. I dont think he's practiced at all this week?(could be wrong)

I don't think you can simply lay it all on the recievers. However the have dropped too many passes to deserve the preseason hype. If you combine that with inability of our QB's to put the ball where it needs to be, you see the results.

Jr, your exactly right. EA put a lot of passes right in the bread basket of those recievers and for some reason they couldn't pull them in. On the otherside of that, EA put a lot of balls 2 yards overtheir heads and we have yet to see Rick get it to them down field. I think a lot of the dropped passes and blown opportunities are because of timing. When you practice to start two different QB's with different abilites it has to really throw off the timing. I hope that now they have settled on a starting QB, he will get most of the reps in practice and it will settled this issue. However, since RC has been in a boot this week it concerns me that we are going to see the same issues against UGA. Does anyone know who has been getting the most reps in practice this week?

IMO They have been complete busts to date. No excuse for those drops. I hope they are running steps in practice for each drop.

Its not just the drops! Wrong routes! I also question their toughness (getting off the line). Our recievers have been an issue for awhile now and I don't know why Washington stays aruond! I thought at the end of last season they had made progress and wouldn't be an issue and thought Mecham would be all world.

Lots of potential just not much consistant production so far, but I have a gut feeling that they break out this Saturday.

Our receivers are okay. They are all great runners, I could see some of the tougher ones even playing tailback. But their hands aren't quite up to par. Other than a few drives through the year and the second half at LSU, our whole offense has looked out of sync. Time to step it up, boys.

I think UT's receiving corp. to be a real mystery--wrapped in a riddle, inside of an enigma--for two years. I too am starting to conclude that they just aren't nearly as good as advertised--but it's hard to say because 1) the QB play has been wildly inconsistent; and 2) RS & Co. play too many WRs, in my view, and there seems very little chemistry/cohesion between QB and the wideouts. UT plays at leats 5 receivers regularly (it was six last year), all of whom have played for three years--and yet I couldn't tell you who among them is good and who is not. One of them will have a good game and then disappear for three weeks. Hannon looked great last year at Auburn, but then gets lost in the shuffle for /games/ and does very little. Smith and Swain seem pretty good at catching the occasional short TD pass but often do very little in the middle of the field It's bizarre! UT's passing game is just not very good this year...and there are multiple reasons why.

I don't disagree with that much.

I don't believe there was a big problem last year with drops.

I don't know why the same receivers are not making easy catches this year. When you consider all the points we've left on the field it's sad.

It doesn't matter how much separation you get if you don't catch the ball.
