Hey guys! We are "in" on alot of good prospects and I think that is really great being that it is late in the recruiting season. I hear alot of chatter about how Dooley and Staff plans on "over signing" in this class. What exactly does that mean? Obviously, I understand that it means signing more than the 26-27 spots available, but what does it mean for the recruits that we over sign? What if they all qualify? Who do we keep? I would think we'll have at least 2-3 left out in the rain. Do we ask them to grey shirt? Thanks guys! Go Vols! Hopefully we'll close strong!

Yes you ask some to grey shirt if everyone qualifies. It happens all the time at just about every program in the country.

but then you run the risk of p***ing off the coaching staffs at their respective high schools and hurt your prospects there in the future... i'm sure DD and staff are aware and handling this a delicately as possible...

I wouldn't expect more than a couple of over signs. might sign 28 with a couple either not qualifying or gray shirting..

Also to add to this question, I know we had a few players last year that didn't make it in, are any of those coming back? if they do make it in will they count towards last years count or this years?

Lofton is only possible one that might make it back and he would have to count again this year.

Who do yall think will be told to look elsewhere not with the initials of D.Y. It will happen to at least one more recruit

I'll be surprised if they ask anyone else to look elsewhere. they are not planning on doing that to anyone else

How is it we only have 26 spots with backcounting? It seemed at one time we were going to have 27 spots.

Late additions to the team knocked us down to 26. Don't remember if it was Malik or Darr.

both impacted it.

Malik had to be counted because of the NCAA rule allowing him to transfer without sitting a year. He ahd to count on last year's class. He made the class 24 that got into school meaning we have only one spot we can back count.

I understand the limitations for number of kids a team may sign in a given year, however with our very low overall numbers and an excess of available scholarships is there a way around said rule? Grey shirt is the only option I can think of, I was just curious as to if there was another one and if any of you with your vast recruiting knowledge knew of this alternative method. I know that numbers are already getting tight for this years class yet it seems the coaches are not slowing down at all.
