Calling Jay Mariotti names, keeping kids out of the bigs for not plunking hitters, and now playing pork barrell to pimp his team for the all-star game.

Other than a poor choice of words, I can't fault the guy for anything else he's done.

Yeah, he's the coach of the team on the other side of Chicago. Yeah, he won the World Series over there. I'm just sick of hearing all this stuff about him, and sports journalists don't have the balls to call him out because of his ethnicity and the fact that he will come right back. I just can't stand this guy.

I don't really have any problem with the guys he picked to be reserves for the New York and Boston All Star team. Thome, Konerko, and Dye are all legitimate starters.

I also heard something about him being hellbent to put his 3rd baseman on the AL team. Even if he goes in at pitcher.

No . . . he said he'd put his 3rd baseman on the team if anyone on the team couldn't play due to injury; even if it was a pitcher.

Yes he is a scumbag. He has said that U.S. Cellular Field is a better ballpark than beautiful Wrigley Field. That is absolutely absurd and shows his intelligence.

I'd have to agree with him on that one, too.
Jeez, I wonder what would cause you to have such an opinion?

At least I can give Busch Stadium credit where it's due.

The fact it's an almost 100 year old dump probably has something to do with it.

I'd rather go to a game at Wrigley than Comiskey for the history aspect... as long as I didn't sit on a level with a bathroom above it or concrete fallin' down on my head.

I dunno. I've been to my share of major ballparks, and I thought Wrigley was bitchin'. It was the stadium that got me into the Cubs.

I thought Wrigley was a really neat place to watch the game for about 3 innings. Then the fact that it's uncomfortable and that none of the fans actually watch the game becomes annoying.

The only issue I have with Ozzie is that he went too easy on Mariotti. He is absolute trash. Mariotti is probably the most contemptable member of the sports media, which is akin to being the nation's least likeable pedophile.

Speaking your mind is one thing, showing your ignorance is quite another.

Stick to what you're good at, Ozzie. Baseball and whatever language that is you speak.

Guillen should have chosen his words better, but I agree about Mariotti. In the past 10 years or so there seems to be a cottage industry that has sprung up made up of smug Sportswriters who pontificate as if they are an authority on all they write about. Guys like Mariotti, Lupica etc are just plain annoying and come off as the kid who was always picked last on the playground using a pen and paper to get back at all the jocks.

Mariotti was a columnist for the Cincinnati Post in the '80s. I had the misfortune of meeting him then and a couple of times since. He is, without question, the most despicable person I've ever met in sports.

Mariotti just looks smarmy. He has however grown on me, just a little bit, on Around the Horn.

The Cubby Den was fun. The floor was slippery with Pabst Blue Ribbon.
