SCUTTLE: Another prospect Tennessee hopes to get involved with but are clearly chasing some others schools for is 4-star safety Derrick Davis Jr. The Pennsylvania native will likely grow into a linebacker and has Penn State, Clemson, Ohio State and Notre Dame among his top schools. Davis, a Top 100 prospect, did not rule out the Vols, though, saying, “It’s not too little too late. They could still get in my ear to have a chance. Anything is possible. I could end up anywhere, really.”
The Vols were actually the most recent school to extend a scholarship to Davis, just pulling the trigger last month. Davis believes the late offer might’ve been a bit of a miscommunication, but he’s started to develop a relationship with defensive coordinator Derrick Ansley.
“It’s strong with them. Tennessee was looking at me for a while. I think they were supposed to offer earlier but I don’t think they new that nobody didn’t,” Davis said.
“So it’s a feeling out process right now. It’s them saying, ‘Hey, we’re on a run right now. We’re trying to rebuild Tennessee and we want you to help us out.”
