He's a marketing genius. Blows every other conference's TV deal out of the water.

Too bad everyone east o the Rockies will still either be asleep or out while these games are on (especially basketball).

If this works it is ingenius; however, I do not see how LA can almost single handedly prop that kind of deal up (Seattle, Portland, SF/Oaklad, San Diego, and Denver are not exactly big markets).

The latest I had to stay up for a Duck game last year was the ASU game at 10:30 Eastern. There was only one other game later than 9.

I might stay in long enough on a Saturday night to catch the first half of an 8pm kickoff; later than that, I most likey will watch none of it instead heading out for food and drinks.

For PAC-12 fans, this package allows them access; for other fans, I imagine about as many will tune in for all games combined as do currently for the FoxSports West game every Saturday night. I could be proven wrong, though.

Seattle is 10/12 or something along those lines as well.

13...but, from my experience there, I cannot say that it is a big sports town. They watch stuff, but I would not say that a lot of them are marking football and basketball games on their calendars.

same can be said for much of the west. larger media markets than the sec and more people with fewer teams to share those markets but more dedicated viewers out east and in the Midwest

Seattle is not a big city, though. They definitely roll Seattle and Tacoma into the same market but I have no idea what the sports culture is in Tacoma. In Seattle though, it just is not that die hard.

tacoma and up do have the lions share of the blue collar sports fans of the area.

Droski, you should have highlighted #20 as well.

6 of the top 20. That's how you get a huge television contract.

Congrats; I make my cutoff at 10 (if you are below Detroit, you are not "big-market", IMO.

Interesting that the Oakland A's, the Portland Trailblazers, the Rockies, and the Mariner's are always referred to as "small-market" teams...

detroit isn't a big market?

san francisco giants aren't considered small market and they are 10 miles away.

This is truth.

Maybe you guys are right; maybe the PAC-12 Network will work out. I do not see it that way.

it's already worked out. it's in 40 million homes in the basic cable package. and this is without direct tv and dish which i'm sure will add it.

I know the deal is done; I am just saying that I see this as an enterprise that will fail.

cable works differently from network tv. the money is made on subscribers by the cable companies, not by ratings, and the companies have already signed up. the network is already cash flow positive and the pac-12 owns all of it. i can't see any way it fails.
