Wow, that one was close!!! Did not seem able to stop the running game from what I could tell from the computer updates. I know the flexbone is tough but I thought our speed would make a big difference. Offence seems to be moving the ball. I've heard talk that the defence would carry them this year. If that turns out to be true and the offense continues to improve......

This might have been our (1998) Arkansas scare. What do you think.

I'm new to the forum (my first post) unfortunately, my internet connection is not very good by most standards even though 28.8 bps for Pakistan is good. Watching Gamecast at 5:00 am is a bit rough (I am +9 hours from EDT). Gamecast is so slow and when it updates, 3 or 4 plays get updated almost at once. I was on pins & needles at the end (seemed to take an hour on my computer). My connection is too poor for radio so I guess I am stuck.

Anyone else on the other side of the planet from Neyland come up with a solution on how to follow the vols realtime?

I'll take it though

I'm not but my thanks to them too! No one should understimate the sacrifice they make every day. Living here for the past 15 months has made me appreciate what they do for us all the more.

Go Vols!!!

Welcome aboard the Nation! We have to stop the run and improve on special teams. Ainge and the offense looked unreal again!

Welcome aboard, and while you're over there, locate Bin Laden and share some of the 25 million with your new VolNation buddies.:)

I don't live far from where most people believe he is holed up. That is some real tough territory and even the Paki's don't have friends there. It might as well be another country for that matter. :shakehead:

But..... if he and his buds would like to come to my house, unarmed, and turn themselves in (which would be the right thing to do), there will be a party involved somewhere in the process :yahoo:

If not, I guess I will have to settle for printing this and sending it to them somehow..... :shaking2:

Not sure if you get AFN. Today's game and last week's games have been shown tape delayed.

I may buy the gameplan thing if I don't have to be online for the game when it's showing, but I haven't had a confirmation either way.

Just kidding..... yes I do but I only get one sports channel (ESPN International) and one news channel (BBC) and I tried the radio once. Might as well have been surfing the methane on Venus.

Those of us who live overseas know how sorry the international version of ESPN is. If you like soccer, tennis, golf, or cricket you will be fairly satisfied. If you want to keep up with American sports, move back to America because Intl ESPN won't do anything for you. In fact, they go out of their way to not report U.S. sports.

Africa, we go there for rest and relaxation trips. You guys have it made!!

Anyway..... I digress......

Sorry to hear that. You're right, this place is cake compared to other duty in hostile territory. I would feel bad for you, though, if you came here for rest and relaxation. There's more trash here than people, and sadly, I'm not kidding. Being next door to ungoverned Somolia isn't exactly a walk in the park, but it's better than Pakistan. I have a feeling we have more amenities here at the Camp than you could in Pakistan.

At least we get the AFN channels, even if it's hard to watch TV when I'm not at work.

Seeing as you have the internet, though, you can't be that bad off. I'd subscribe to Gameplan on the net, then.

Kenya, Egypt, etc., well, that's a whole 'nother story.

Too bad you're on the ol' dial-up. I uploaded the game last week on Monday, and I think Freak is going to be able to upload this week's game in the morning. It would take forever to get on 28.8 though... 1.4 GB.

What you've done with your avitar is sa-weeeet! My mouth would be open if there weren't so dang many flies around here.

Ardent Dude..... thanks...... and you keep alert and take nothing for granted. It's those temporary lapses of judgement that can ruin your whole dog gone day!

Upload? Where? Drool.
The link is in the Videos forum. I used Bittorrent, and I have already quit seeding the Cal game. It was only 800 MB too... quality was spotty. Maybe there are still some seeds out there?

Thanks! It is a minor hobby. I don't really make them for anyone else though, because if the site had a whole ton of people with 1 MB avatars, it would load HORRIBLE for ppl like you and Tidwell, who are on dial-up.

Thanks, but I shouldn't have much to worry about. Our Marines are proud of the job they do guarding the wire. The only time I leave the base is to go to the orphanage (or more recently for the ultrasound on my neck).

Still, I'm focused on keeping my head down and out of trouble. 3 more months here, 8 more months in the Navy, and then I'll be home for good.

Marines protecting you...... I think I would have to feel real good about my chances of making it :salute:

I personally have the Pakistan equivalent of Homeland Security providing my protection but it takes a lot of those guys to equal one U.S. Marine! Don't get me wrong, I appreciate all of 'em cause the fact that I am still typing means something.

Can't believe the internet here has been up most of the morning!:clapping:

I've got more than a few Marines and ITs to loan you. :)

Rickster- a really retro, low-tech idea that just occured to me...

There are still lots of ham/etc. radio enthusiasts out there, and that's how Americans in Asia used to get games (and make calls) back in the days before sattelites...

I'm just riffing off the top of my head, but, instead of the internet or cable, ye olde radio might serve you better over there. Not only is the tech more common, but, in the end, cable tv & the internet are just pretty similar signals bounced off sattelites too.

Given that you said you've just got a 28 kps modem to work with, trying to use it to pick up contemporary internet 'traffic' is actually probably less efficient than just using old fashioned radio equipment.

You said you aren't military (are there any American military in Pakistan?), but there is certainly an American/ Western presence there, and so I bet there's somebody you could approach for info about how to exploit radio signals & relays of ham enthusiasts to pick up game broadcasts. Especially given how many people I've heard talk about how bad ESPN Asia sucks if you're a yankee...

Just an idea that I don't really understand- yet one which worked fine for fans in Asia from the 40s to the 80s

That is a really good idea. I'll see what I can find out this week. Tech items can be somewhat hard to find but I think I know a place that might just be able to get it done or point me in the right direction.

Thanks!
