BBC NEWS | Americas | Palin: The great debater?

If anyone knows the challenge that lies ahead for Senator Joe Biden, it is Andrew Halcro, 44, who took part in a handful of debates with Mrs Palin during Alaska's 2006 gubernatorial race.
"The one thing I found during the [2006] debates was no matter how knowledgeable her opponents were on the issues, it didn't matter," Mr Halcro told BBC News.
"She has an amazing ability to turn a 45 second answer into a folksy story... she's never been forced to know the issues."
Mr Halcro said Mrs Palin's biggest strength is her ability to "fill the room with her presence". Having studied at Harvard's Kennedy School of Government and Harvard Business School, in addition to being a lifelong Alaskan and lawmaker, Mr Halcro came to the debates armed with a wealth of knowledge and statistics.

Thoughts other than I am trying to keep up with notverycrucial by posting as many palin threads as humanly possible?

Biden will have steam coming out his ears in the first 30 minutes.

She cant lose. Everyone expects her to do terrible so if she isnt terrible she comes out winning. If she bombs, well she was supposed to. The pure idiocy of those who hate her so much. They have lowered the standards for her so much that she cant do worse than expected. Brilliant!

the extreme focus has made this the most important debate of all of them. The dems have inadvertently shifted a huge microscope on this event and put it in the hands of the gaffe king. If Palin smokes him, it's a much larger blow to the dems than her being smoked by him (which I think is unlikely). This setting favors a very good politician and she appears to be that.

unless, of course, Palin adopts the same approach used by Jack Kemp in 1996, which was a promise to not go negative or at least refrain from being overly critical. A promise Al Gore had no intention of keeping and in turn, destroyed Kemp in their debate.

i agree. I think even a draw really is a negative for the dems the way they have been bashing palin.

Only once (Reagan in 1980) has someone come back from being down by 5 points on the average in the polls with 35 days to go to win an election since 1960. The McCain team has a big hill to climb so she better do well. The state polls released today on realclearpolitics.com have stretched the lead even more for Obama.
