"You never know what's been done to a child before you get that child...I have a friend who adopted a kid from an orphanage in Colombia. The child had brain damage, you know, and grew up weird. ...You don't have to take on somebody else's problems."

This is a self-called prophet of God talking. I'm sure Jesus thinks he's brilliant.

All men are sinners. No one is better than anyone else. Put your faith in a man u will always be let down. What he said was dumb.

I'll comment on this when I get home. I'm going to play Devil's advocate (no pun intended).

You know what, I change my mind. I'll comment on it now. I was going to give myself time to post something tactfully and not offend or step on anyone's toes, but I figure you guys would probably slam me if I went thru all of that trouble anyways, so here it goes.

What he said is true, even for Christians. You don't have to take on someone else's problems.

That's right! People should not be forced to adopt kids thereby taking on someone else's problems!!!

Oh wait....

Pat Robertson is just another in a long line of con artists fleecing his flock. Christ had no home but these millionaires are imitating Christ?

I hate clergy more than liberals. Religion is organized crime.

Turning a blind eye is not exactly God's will. According to the Bible we are obligated to help our neighbors in need if we have the means to do so.

John 3:17

You are right. No one has to adopt, however, given there are 10s of millions of orphans just in the southern part of the African continent alone we all have a problem that will require a whole bunch of us to do something. If enough of us continue to say "not my problem" we will soon have an unmanageable global problem with unpredictable consequences.

Also, for the record, Mr. Robertson doesn't speak for me.

Nobody has to do anything they don't want to.

Not sure I've ever met anyone who has felt obligated to adopt a child.

I didn't watch the video but what possessed him to even comment on it? Just sounds random and pointless.

Anyways... I have an Asian cousin my aunt and uncle adopted. He had some weird problem with his lips that ended with him getting multiple surgeries. At one point when he was like 16 he had to wear this thing bolted in his head. I honestly don't recall all of the reasons behind it but he's cool. He's 23 now and works at a bank. I believe my aunt and uncle were told they couldn't have children which is why they chose to adopt him. They ended up having two children of their own after him though. Never really thought to ask questions. He was just another one of my cousins to me.

Some people wants kids and/or want to help others if possible. Really odd statement...

Condemning the clergy because of Pat Robertson is like condemning postal carriers because of David Berkowitz

Honestly, I figured he would have said something along the lines of growing up alone is God's punishment for letting their parents die.

This. Jesus didn't condemn the rich man who wouldn't give up his wealth to follow him but he makes it very clear that Christians are obligated to help those whom society has cast aside.

Just because you have these aholes doesn't mean all religion is organized crime. One is usually best served avoiding over reaching generalizations.
