The coaching styles of Pat Summitt and Phil Fulmer are contrasting to say the least. You mess up on her floor you get the stare of death, mess of the field you get a hand clap. Maybe that explains why she has won so many more national championships.

Fulmer can't hold her jock! He needs to attend a few practice sessions, and get a few tips! Pat is a UTM graduate, sorry to hear about the loss of her father!

The difference is she coaches a sport that maybe 20 schools actually care about and expend resources on in an attempt to win championships. Fulmer coaches in an MUCH more competitive environment. Comparing them is like comparing the owner of the corner deli to the CEO of McDonald's.

the difference is she can recruit and coach phil can just recruit, also she will win a majority of the big games phil won't.

I honestly couldn't disagree more. Her tactics, in my opinion, could work in any enviroment, regardless of competitiveness. While both coaching styles seemed to have worked up until this point, it looks like Fulmer is going to have to change his a bit or we're going to be left in the dust.

I'm not saying that she wouldn't succeed in a more competitive environment. My point is that the sheer numbers everyone points to as benchmarks of her success are undeniably aided by the fact that UT was ahead of the curve in prioritizing women's basketball. Could she be successful coaching men's basketball? Yes. Would she win at a rate remotely comparable to her current record? Absolutely not.

The difference is discipline and fundamentals

Yep. Pat doesn't just clap and smack them on the back of the head when they don't do right. She gets on them.

Think phil should use my rule....you are allowed to smack one person per day/practice? Not real hard, but the helmets gota be off..

I would have to disagree on that if I may.The Lady Vols do have to compete just as much as our football team does.I mean, womens basketball is becoming more popular,I think.
I respect both Coaches for all they`ve done for both programs.(even though I`m a tad bit mad at Phil)

pat's crew doesnt have to compete as much

BUT

our school spends a lot more time and money with the football program while baseketball is the second thing.

A little late to throw my :twocents: in but I believe the main difference is the ability to adapt. Pat goes to other schools to learn new offenses and techniques while Phil will not change. Pat is consistently trying to better the program while Phil enjoys the status quo.
