I'm not sure how long Pat plans to coach, but I for one am glad my parents (both now who have passed) taught me to follow her Lady Vols and respect and appreciate Coach Pat Summitt. I would like to see her son Tyler be put on the Lady Vol staff one day. It seems only fitting. Thanks Pat.

As painful as it is, it is time to admit the obvious and move on.

I agree.I think we all know that Pat is coach in name only and that Warlick is running the show(and doing a piss poor job of it).Pat has earned the right to stay as long as she wants but when she does decide its time to go this staff needs to go, no promotions to head coach, no hand picked successors, get rid of everyone and pay whatever it takes to get Caldwell or someone capable of running this team.If we have to go thru several seasons with Warlick as coach its going to do nothing but set this program back and from the looks of things that's where its headed.

That is the obvious.

This.

Everybody is seeing a preview of the future with the assistants and Holly leading. Either accept the mediocrity and lesser talent level that results, or bring in the best. There is only one Pat, and unfortunately life as she and the rest of us have known it as Lady Vol supporters has radically changed. She deserves to participate and sit on that bench as long as she wants though.

In the usual Tennessee tradition of late I expect Cheek to want them to reach down for a less expensive mid-major coach and try to sell it to the public. Maybe Hart can influence against that.

nicki caldwell has to have an out in her contract that would allow her to coach at her alma mater in the event of pat's stepping down. she would be the best choice for this team. i really believe that pat will step down after the season.

I'm not sold on Caldwell. She's a comer, but I think there are better coaches in the game. It will be a big decision. Who makes it--Cronin or Hart. I thought Cronin handled the women's teams, but Hart seemed to make the hire of the new women's soccer coach, or am I wrong?

It's too bad that PS didn't announce her intention to retire at the end of this season when she revealed that she was ill. That would have been wise. Now, this team is looking bad and the coaching situation is a MESS. And this team will probably be worse next year without Stricklin. Is PS going to sit quietly on the bench for another season? Would be a very bad decision for her and the program. I think she will announce her retirement soon--and then she can be feted properly for her accomplishments one way or another. It's a sad way to end an amazing career--and particularly so because this team is lousy at the one thing PS values above all else, defense.

Those of us who are ancient have been here before. There was a coach named Neyland who may have done as much for UT football as Pat has done for LV basketball. Unfortunately, he became too ill to be the coach for all of eternity. Realizing this, he stepped down. Many fans bemoaned this and thought he should remain coach, even if he had to be carried to the sideline on his death bed. But, he did what was best for UT football.

He then made a terrible mess of the whole situation. Out of loyalty, he replaced himself with an assistant who had no aptitude at all for a head coaching job. For the first time since 1927, UT football became worse than mediocre. The loyal assistant was fired to stop the erosion.

Although Pat's illness is mental, rather than physical, she needs to follow the General's example and do what is best for the program she loves. Since she is not also athletic director as he was, the decision as to who should replace her should not be hers. Loyalty and love can make any of us nearsighted. Hart is paid to be objective.

I am offended you would say she is just a girls coach. She is much more than that. She is one of the top 5 coaches men or women all time. PERIOD

No disrespect to mrs summit but we can't say she will always be the best because we don't know the future.

Nice, ITC. Until someone topples all her records and accomplishes what she has done for UT, women's basketball everywhere and women specifically, she is untouchable.

That can't happen because the one who breaks her records won't be saddled with all the mountains that were on her shoulders at the time she started. And, she had mentors, too. Nowadays, it's nowhere near as hard as what she had to fight through just to get the women's game recognized. There were very, very few women even close to playing basketball at the level she forsaw. Now they're everywhere.

Best women's coach, not girls' coach.

Presumably you don't want to hear the UT men's team called "the boys' team."

Once you're out of high school, it's not girls and boys. It's men and women. :hi:

And I agree with the earlier post, one of the best coaches ever, men's or women's, period.

Geno will tie Pat's record for national championships this year.

Not looking like it to me. When does he match her number of wins? When does he reach legendary status for completely changing the face of women's basketball?
