Bruce Willis plays one character, himself, and he's the coolest guy ever. I don't fault you. The original Die Hard is the best pure action movie ever made.

I think you mean 2 & 4. 3 (with Samuel L Jackson) is pretty decent.

FWIW, IMDB ratings:
Die Hard = 8.3
Die Hard II = 7.0
Die Hard with a Vengenace = 7.5
Live Free or Die Hard = 7.4

And an 8.3 IMDB rating for a pure action movie? I don't know that that can be topped.
