Just curious if either the NCAA/Schools/Conferences make any money off of games like EA Sports NCAA 2012? Seems to me that if any of these organizations do make money off the sale of these games than the players who's names and likeness are in the games should make some money too. Even if that money is just set aside for them when they finish their college careers. Most of these players won't make it to or in the NFL and that money could really help them out in the future.

The only thing EA takes from the players is their # and maybe their height and weight. And that's usually even tweaked a little bit so as to not take the "likeness". But even if they did, EA isn't using their names or facial features, etc. Same with coaches. I'm sure all EA pays is the conference and schools for entrances, stadium, uniforms, logos, playbooks, etc.

That's why even the cities/states listed for the players are wrong. Usually same state, but different cities. I could be wrong on who all gets what but I would assume the AA, bowls, conferences, and schools get it.

Thanks I don't play those games and didn't know they didn't use the players name/likeness.

Yeah, EA has like maybe 15 different faces you can choose from. Just generic stuff.

So how is it before all the bowl games them always come out and say who won the computer version of the bowl? I realize it's just a computer game, but still without the same players/coaches it's not a true simulation of what the game might be. Just curious...

South Park made a rather excellent episode in criticizing the NCAA as well as EA sports for how they handle this situation in fact, because the schools do not get a dime of the millions the games have produced. It's kinda of like avoiding plagiarism, change a guy who is 6'1 to 6'2, make him 185 instead of 180, and suddenly you don't have to pay him or his team anything.

I definitely though this thread was about a new, realistic feature EA sports had decided to incorporate in their game.

I really don't feel like the schools deserve anything for it, to be honest.

But it's funny that you bought this up because I literally finished watching this episode like 10 minutes ago.

Basically, everything you see on tv in a "real" game, say the BCS title game last year has nothing that carries over to NCAA video games. The same playbooks are all that is "realistic". EA makes player ratings similar to what the actual players' performances are/were in the regular season. Like, for example, LaMichael James is the best RB in the game and has a 95+ ratings due to the previous season he had. Coaches mean nothing, its just there to have a "realistic" feel to the game. It's all based on simulations from team ratings EA makes up or the person who is playing the game.
