Lol - Bruce cannot afford to whiff on this class - was supposed to be his biggest and best... looked to be heading that way a few months ago.. things change quickly.

Not a huge loss. He'll be a decent bench player in a big time league, nothing more.

I couldn't find the article online through the newspaper but he was quoted as saying Tennessee recruited him the hardest of any school

Looking at his list, can anyone say with straight face that a player should choose Tennessee over any of those programs?

Not to start the whole Pearl argument again, because that has been beat to death in other threads.... but without a higher profile coach that elevates the program to a higher status, the answer is no. Kids are not going to choose UT over Kansas/Duke/UCLA etc.

Is it still possible, yeah. Pearl somehow lands a few big classes and gets to a couple final fours, maybe winning one. (easier said than done) Or perhaps starts churning out 1st round picks year after year will attract players who want to be NBA bound. But with the status quo, its hard for UT to land top recruits, at least on a consistent basis. IMO.

Getting beaten out for Elijah Macon is a far bigger loss than this.

I played against Payne multiple times last year and during the summer and once during the season. My teammate and now freshman UD Center, Matt Kavanaugh lit up Payne every game, and limited to under 8 points every game. Payne has never impressed me that much despite all I have read about his improvements throughout the summer.

Pearl had a small window to elevate the program to beyond sweet 16's two and three years ago, and but collapsed short.

Pearl also had a nice window to grab an SEC Tournament title. It was literally sitting on a platter for us each of the past two years, and we managed to come up short. We'll seemingly have a chance this year too, but let's just say it appears that part of the competition has gotten quite a bit tougher.

last year was our best shot IMO but I can't see how we didn't get it done in either of the last 2.

If this recruiting class does go down the tubes, Bruce will really need a big year on the court. A successful season would make rebuilding easier.

Well it appears that Bruce is actually on the road recruiting as we speak.... that's a first. A kid I know is in Florida for a big AAU tournament and just sent me this picture of him sitting by himself.

I don't know how to resize the picture, sorry for it being so small.
