On SportsTalk said there were two options:
1) Stay at Tennessee, graduate and be a great ambassador to the program

2) Look for a lower-level program that will allow him to play with a defibulator.

Was this from a Pearl interview? I'm looking around trying to find something else. Thanks.

Pearl was on as a guest from 4:30 to 4:50 Eastern. Answered questions including one about Negedu's future.

I hope he stays at Tennessee and gets his degree. In St Louis this weekend it seemed like he was the most popular guy around, people love him. Great kid.

I'm confused regarding the 2nd option. Does that mean that UT isn't willing to risk it but that a lower-level program would? Why would anyone want to risk it?

Thanks. I think most of have wondered what the final word would be. Really sad to hear. Sad for him. I hope he stays.

Yes, he stated a few players with E's condition have played. He obviously will not allow it, but others will.

I see.

Definitely sad to hear. He would have been a beast down low, but his health is most important. Hope E-Man decides to stay. I love seeing him out there motivating the other guys.

That just doesn't make sense. If he has been cleared to play by a doctor then it should be his decision on his future basketball options. To have a medically cleared player told he can't play for UT doesn't add up. Maybe there is more to the story - like there is no medical clearance, but based on this simple information it sounds like Bruce is making a decision someone with an MD should be making.

Sounds like he can play but its risky and Pearl's not going to suit up a guy and then have him die on the court. If you need a defibrillator to get your heart back pumping that's a pretty big deal. I wouldn't want that on my conscience as a head coach.

Sending him away to a "smaller college" would be a bigger weight on my mind if he's been medically cleared to play. The facilities and personnel at UT already saved him once. If he was cleared and died elsewhere it would always loom that UT could have saved him.

Maybe, but if Negedu transfers to DII there isn't anything Bruce can do it about it. I'm sure he hopes he picks option 1 but it's ultimately up to Emmanuel.

If he's been cleared to play by doctors...then I can't see why Pearl wouldn't let him play here.

IRRC He's been told that playing is his choice, but it would be like playing craps with his life. Pearl is 100% allowed to tell a player he can't play if it could kill him. All of you saying otherwise aren't using logic, IMO.

This is sad news. E-man is a great kid. Theres not to many people who would stick around knowing they wouldnt get to play. I just hope he stays and can be a great mentor to younger players comming in.

If he has been cleared to play by a medical professional then it shouldn't be a medical issue for Pearl.

Otherwise, any coach could tell a bust player to move on son, you can't play here because it could kill you.

kids get told things like that all the time (not the kill you part). This is no different than telling a kid he's not going to play and can transfer if he wishes
