Pearl comments on players staying in school

This is all that Pearl says if you don't want to read an article on Gator basketball.. :yuck:

"If they left this year and were drafted high, no one would begrudge them," Tennessee Coach Bruce Pearl said. "Their time will come.

"But they're back, and they've raised the bar for Florida. [The conference] will have to rise to that level."

My prediction, Noah is the next Leinart. Didn't leave at the top of his game and will pay for it next year.

Noah's family is incredibly wealthy. He has nothing to lose by coming back for another year.

I think his family's good financial status played a role and gave him the luxury of deciding what to do based on what he wants, rather than what he needs. And right now he wants to be a college student.

That's true. That will come in handy if he gets injured next year too.

When was the last time someone came back to school and suffered an injury that really hurt their draft status? I think that concern is always overstated.

Just because it's overstated, it doesn't mean that it never happens. It's always a factor and many athletes think about it and let it influence their decisions to go pro or stay.

Putting finances aside, I don't think Noah has anything to gain by coming back for his senior season. Very little, if any, chance that Florida will repeat. On the national scene, Duke is always good, North Carolina will be very good, Tennessee up and coming in the SEC, Ohio State should be extremely talented. There's just a grip of teams that will make this year's tournament far more difficult than last year's.

I wonder if that counted towards the tooth loss stats for Florida?

i read another article not too long ago, forget where though, where CBP was ultra complimentary of UF, to the point of saying that our recruiting success was in part due to the success of UF winning it all. That coupled with LSU also reaching the final four and USC winning the NIT etc...it gets recruits pumped to come play against that kind of top notch competition. which made his job much easier....

said he was rooting for UF and LSU the whole way just for that reason. said something to the affect of "not a bone in my body was rooting against Florida".

Milo, I remember some pro scouts telling writers at the end of the season that they wouldn't mind seeing Noah put in some more time on his shooting touch outside the basket.

Does that have one single thing to do with him deciding to stay? Heck no.
But there is room for improvement still at this level for him...

i think it's his junior season isn't it? either way, another year can't hurt from a development standpoint...i like you don't know that UF is going to repeat....that's tough to do. Though they should be very good in the League, wouldn't be suprised if they won the SEC tourney again, and was a top 2-3 seed in the dance next season.

Yep, that was good for the SEC for sure. From what I've read though, we caught the eye of recruits early on when the Vols beat the crap out of Texas last year.

Still, beating the National Champs twice doesn't hurt a thing.

Perhaps Noah will have more FUN playing in college next year than in the NBA. That is what he has to gain.

This is the point most people are missing. You guys make statements like "nothing to gain by staying." What do you mean gain? You envision the NBA as glitter and glam. And, I'm not saying its purgatory. BUT, its a much much tougher lifestyle than bieng the BMOC college athlete. If I was wealthy enough that money was not a factor and had to choose how to spend one year of my life I would choose being a college student/athlete over an NBA player. And, I think that is the case in this situation.

You're absolutely 100% correct. At no point next year will Noah play four games in five nights guarding Duncan, Nowitski, Garnett, and K-Mart. The NBA is a job. I travel a great deal for work. I can't imagine logging the miles I do, then going to the arena and guarding one of those guys in the post every other night.

Noah wasn't consistant until the end of the year. I still think he'll get much better by staying another year. He's a fantasitc player and I'm glad to see him in the SEC.

He would have been a top 3 pick in the draft if he would have left. With Oden and company coming out next year, The best shot he has now is 5th

So what? He's already wealthy beyond belief. Why would he care about a couple of spots in the draft?
