Does paying your basketball coach more than your football coach in the SEC mean your school is now officially a basketball school?

Good. Now the pearl-clutchers (pun intended) can breathe a sigh of relief that the horrible, horrible man will NEVER deface Tennessee again after Barnes retires. His final fours and potential NC will, thankfully, occur as Auburn.

Whew. We sure dodged a bullet there.

He broke rules (secondary violation) then tried to cover it up by lying (major violation), so technically, yes. Chuck Person took the fall for him at Auburn. Hope they catch him next time.

Pearl put himself above UT's program. I don't care what UT's admin knew or whether or not they "prepared" him. He chose to lie over something very stupid, putting not only himself at risk, but the program and the university as well. I'm not going to hang on his nuts because he plays a fun style of basketball.

His lie was clearly wrong but it seems UT fans think the very minor cookout violation and lie was all Pearl did wrong at UT but now has become Tarkanian at Auburn.

It doesn't make sense that he went from the cookout level violation to major cheater just because he's at another school; particularly when he's proven his coaching ability.

Hate him if you like but the rationale that he's a major cheater now doesn't seem justified

The university had been unable to determine whether Pearl had been involved in any violations of law or NCAA rules because the FBI had seized his computers and cell phones as part of its investigation

so guilty?

NCAA gave Pearl 2 game suspension for not properly monitoring Person. Compared to what they did to him for the cookout/lie it seems they didn't see issues with him WRT the Auburn situation

Bruce Pearl refused to cooperate with the school's internal investigation

If it walks like a duck and quacks like a duck, and has previously been hit with a show-cause by the NCAA....

a guy with a show cause and the NCAA gets another shot at him and only puts 2 games on him for not monitoring a guy the FBI took down?

you'd think the NCAA would nail him to the wall if they had anything but he was not charged with any recruiting violations.

fine to hate him but the cheating charge doesn't appear to have any support

Seriously? You think the NCAA wouldn't want another shot at Pearl? The FBI had Pearl's info yet only went after Person instead of Pearl? Don't they usually want to take down the big fish?

I don't think they could pin it on Pearl. That doesn't mean I don't think Pearl was involved. Believe he's innocent if you want, I don't.

FBI and NCAA can't find dirt on him. Seems the money is on innocent until proven guilty.

Under normal circumstances I agree. I don't see Pearl as normal. It's the scorpion and the frog. "Why?", asked the frog. "It's my nature", replied the scorpion.
