Pearl said today on ST that he would submit NBA draft evaluations on Scotty Hopson and Brian Williams.

I also found it interesting that Pearl said if he had it to do over again, at the end of the MSU game, he might consider advancing the ball to half court and calling another timeout.

If that could be done with only .2 seconds off the clock like the first time, that may have been the better play. Not that any strategy is going to be a great one in that situation, but Tennessee might have gotten a slightly better look.

Pearl talked about offseason work, mentioning that Tatum needs to really go crazy in the offseason with his body. Williams has changed his body and now needs to chisel it.

Other notes from Pearl.

On J.P. Prince: if he had a better jump shot he could play in the NBA.

On Kenny Hall: Wayne's freshman year was better but Hall is bigger and rebounds better. He put 25 pounds on when he got here but he needs to get in the weight room and put 20 more on.

On Jordan McRae: Combination of JP and Scotty. He's long and athletic. He flies through the air and can really shoot the ball. His body needs work because he is very thin.

On Tobias Harris: He's a productive, solid, hard-playing, very mature and very skilled player. A combination of Tyler Smith and Wayne Chism. Plays bigger than Tyler but not as big as Wayne. Skilled like Wayne to be able to play the inside outside game. He's a better ball handler than Wayne and a better passer.

On scholarships: Tennessee has one more available and is still in the hunt for a guy. If they can get the right one, they will bring him on in.

On Jeronne Maymon: Tough guy. Undersized inside player with above average skill level. He's strong and could be a matchup problem for other teams.

On Negadu: Could consider transferring to a smaller school. There have been some examples where a kid with a defibrillator has played at smaller schools. Not sure if that's an option for Negadu or not.

I have a real good feeling about Jeronne Maymon: Even though he is 6'6'', i think being at 240lbs he could be a go to guy inside at times.

I agree, but didn't he transfer from Marquette because he did not want to play down low? I could be wrong sorry if I am

I believe you are right, I think thats what I remember reading. One thing with Bruce, if you can shoot outside like Maymon likes to do, and if you can hit Bruce doesnt care. Look at Wayne.

I bet his development is like Wayne's. Bruce will let him chuck some up as long as he plays hard defense and rebounds, and as he matures hopefully he'll develop some semblance of a post game. I just hope we can find someone teams have to cover down low other than BW. Tobias seems like more of a floater, and Kenny Hall looked extremely raw this year.

Like I said in a thread yesterday about Kenny, he showed a couple times of brilliance this season. If he gets in the gym in the offseason and points on 15-25 pounds of muscle, and if he works on his strength on going up because he got stripped a quite a bit in traffic this year. If he work on this stuff, he could become a beast inside.

I've seen Maymon play and I think he will be a good garbage man. He won't be spectacular, but he can do the Stephen Pearl role with actual offensive skills. You need guys to do the dirty work and I feel he can fill the role. Solid player.

Pearl was very open with his feeling today on ST. He also mentioned how he felt after losing, then how he felt seeing all Vol fans that made the trip and how not having Wayne to call plays for anymore is something he's not ready to get use to!

Pearl also said that just because the season is over, that he was going to work for three seniors....getting them hooked up with the right agent and the right information, workouts and whatever they need to succeed.

On and off the court, Pearl is the real deal!

Go Vols

No wonder the players love Pearl. He really seems like a father figure and great coach to them. What a season....I miss it already.

He must be giving scholarships to both McBee and Bone. We only have up to 6 returning (Williams, Goins, Hopson, Tatum, Woolridge, Hall). We have 3 incoming freshmen and 1 incoming transfer. That makes 10. To only have 1 available, he'd have to be giving 2 to walkons.

I think it's been established that Negedu's no longer using a basketball scholarship.

McBee will get a scholarship for sure.....are we at 13 again or still at 12?

Maymon was playing center at Marquette according to his father:thumbsup:

Yeah I think he just wants to have the flexibility to play inside and outside which is why he is such a perfect fit for UT. Marquette wanted him to stay in the paint all the time.
