Wes Rucker tweet worth discussing -

Pearl didn't promise a return to the full-court press. Said this team will still create many turnovers, but in the halfcourt.

Hmmmm...........

The C. C. offense works well in the regular season but has been underwhelming in the AA'S. With the allegations and the lying, I'm sure Bruce realizes winning is greater than vanity. His leash is much shorter than it has ever been.

The guard play gets much better in the tourney.

C. C. is absolutely dependent on the other team being a bit sloppy, not always executing, and not being crisp. The other team isn't like that very often in the post season.

i think thats a good decision. pressing at times when we have momentum and want to speed the game up is great but just doing it all the time isn't all that smart. I second whoever said improve the halfcourt offense and we're set. At times last year our offense got stagnant and we didn't get anything off the crap flex junk. Just having our playmakers be more aggressive and create opportunities is what we need.

also, Coach Pearl if you ever need me to teach the motion offense (best offense and when run by talented players who understand it is unstoppable) to the squad I'm available.

I totally agree. The motion offense is so versatile and depending on the strength of your team you can change your emphasis from a post up game to dribble-drive and screens.

You still keep continuity from year-to-year and tweak it as personnel dictates.

I've thought, since after the '07-'08 season, that we were too large for CC to be run effectively. Our starters and second squad for this season are going to all be at least 6'6, with the exceptions of Goins and Golden, obviously.

I like the press when the team needs a spark, especially at home. Creating a Turnover or a timeout because of the press can really get a team going. However, using it as your main defense is not good strategy.

I have a team you can coach at the Orange Grove center in Chattanooga.

The flex does a similar thing to a team defense when the cutters are sharp and use the screens the right way IMO, however, we tend to get lazy at times and the cuts aren't made with any purpose and the screens are walked around. I like the flex, but there has to be a mechanical fluidity and the ball has to move quickly to be effective. Scotty's lil NBA live catch and stare-down slow this up and prevent the rest of the flex from being effective at times. If he is gonna catch the ball on the wing, square up, and put the ball on the floor with authority than I am fine with that stare-down, but when he does it and then passes back to the top of the key, it pretty much renders the flex useless as the cutters are not in any rythm. That is when you see those deep 3's start flying

The press is most effective when it comes as a surprise. I still think we should press of off made free throws however. We create ton of turnovers in that area

I like the C.C. when it is used sparingly, it can be really good as long as Pearl doesnt use it as the main D. I think it can be a good way to change the tempo of the game, or catch a team off guard when you throw it in there every now and then.

I think pressing against UK may be in vain this season though. Knight may not have the same abilities that Wall had offensively as far as scoring goes, but the kid does NOT turn the ball over 8 times a game either.

I hope BP stays with the exact same system offensively and defensively that we saw from the Kansas game all the way through to the Elite Eight.

I like this but do not understand why Pearl continues to press experienced / faster guards, knowing he's going to get burnt. I scream at the tv but I don't think he listens.
