Each practice for a week and have them box out, jump, grab the rebound with TWO hands. For being as tall and lanky as they are, they have to be the worst rebounding big men in at least the conference.

They are definitely not the worst. Auburn and Ole Miss come to mind.

I see the same thing every week. There is a 50% chance he tips the ball out of bounds when he tries to get a rebound. Also if you look at where the opponents' offensive rebounds come from you will see it is usually Tobias man that got the better positioning on him. But then again it doesn't help that he is the only one going for rebounds when Williams is out

Ok maybe an exaggeration but Fields and Harris are better players than ole miss and auburn's post players

Harris definitely needs some serious work on rebounds, but Fields is really pitiful.......Fields is the worst rebounding big guy, considering his athletic ability, that I have ever seen.....No excuse for Fields not to get 10 boards every game, and instead he usually gets about 3, sad....

Harris had possibly his worst game of the season, but I think he has been the best rebounder on the team. I love Fields athleticism but he does need to use both hands and rip that ball down as well as Williams. It looks like hot potato in the paint too often.

It's weird how some feel the same as you and some the same as me. In my opinion, Williams is our most reliable guy grabbing a rebound. It seems like he is the only one crashing the boards at times. But with him, it's the passes after that make me nervous. I think Harris trys to one-hand it too much and let's his man get the inside position a lot. I don't know why Bruce doesn't try to get hopson more involved in rebounding with his height and ability to jump. I'd rather us get almost all the defensive rebounds even if it means we can't run with it as often.

I think Harris's biggest problem is he is soft.

I think lbrjohn is just reacting to the poor overall rebounding performance tonight. &, I feel him there. It was pitiful. When we rarely did get our hands on the ball tonight on the boards, we bobbled it back over. We missed from point blank range probably 1/2 dozen times, we turned the ball over like crazy, poor perimeter D, didn't get to the foul line...

Really, did much go right tonight? We looked like we were fighting against ourselves & UK all night. But, I'd have to say the butterfingered rebounding was palpable. I think that's what he's reacting to, & I support the vent. Especially since I just vented. haha

Well I think Pearl should have not even tried to play coach tonight. Not at kentucky; Tony had the players playing good togather. Pearl coming in just screwed up the rhythm that the team had going. He could have let Tony do the floor coaching and and he ride the pine.

Okay, I fumbled the last reply out of bounds so I got no room to complain...but I agree with others that we have some soft players. They need to have that aggressive attitude when hitting the boards. I also agree that Hopson and Tatum are too athletic to not get in there and get their share of rebounds. Kentucky killed us on the boards with smaller players.

And as Rock said above, we weren't running that much and in many games we rarely get a quick and easy basket with Hopson and Tatum running ahead. That's why I'd much rather them both try to grab the rebounds offensively and defensively. That's what Pitt does and that's why they rebound half their misses and don't give up to many offensive ones either

I think Harris's biggest problem is he is soft.

THIS:lolabove:

Harris is lacking the tenacious gene. He shows great potential, but just doesn't seem to have an aggressive side that could really propel his game. The same type of issue with Hopson. They have the ability, but do not seem to want to take the game(s) over when needed. Always looking for someone else to take charge.

Sad part is, I'm not really sure this can be coached in any significant way. It's kinda something that is either part of your personality or it isn't...

Harris is not soft. He has been a good rebounder most of the year, has played some good defense against tough bigs and got in the paint and banged against Pitt/Nova.

He is young and defers to the older players on the team out of respect. When he is aggressive with the ball, the rest of the team stands around and doesn't get open for him to pass to them. It leads to him getting himself into bad position and getting a bad shot or turning the ball over.

We need to start running more 2-man game with Goins/Harris and having Tatum, Hopson, McBee, Bone spot up for 3's.

It is all about effort. Not being in position and batting the ball with 1 hand instead of catching it. The latter is really irritating along with the loose balls. It seemed that KY hustled and got every frigging loose ball. No excuse for that. They also hit their free throws and we didn't. Free throws are not spectacular, but you can get a few more points to win a game if you make them.

One of our offensive rebounding problems is that the defenders can pack the court down low because we don't have consistent outside shooters.

Now my rant is over. Go Vols for the rest of the year.
