So if that is how turns out, his average salary will go from $2.3 to $2.4 million plus the assistants getting a boost.

Eh.

Does anyone remember what a bad year under Wade Houston or Buzz Peterson (or Buzzer Beaterson as I heard him called on another board) was like? I filled out NCAA brackets for years without seeing UT, it has felt good to see the Vols in the tourney 4 years in a row. Yeah his in-game coaching leaves a little to be desired, but its been a fun four years to be a UT b-ball, even if none of those years ended like we wanted them to and even though this year our team was painful to watch at times. Being disappointed means we have expectations. Before Bruce, I had none.

Eh.

Sure, Pearl has his drawbacks, but would you rather have A. Grant and save $300K?

What is the difference in Jerry Green's four consecutive trips to the NCAA tournament and Pearl's? Were you not excited then?

No real difference in performance, once they got to they tourney. . .BUT Green had more talent. They both under-acheived. One was a guy who brought nothing to the University off the court, the other guy is everywhere bringing exposure to UT.

A guy I work with told me he went to the Big Orange caravan when Green was here and caught him picking his nose at the table when someone else was speaking. I have no doubt he did the same thing during b-ball games. :D

Well, I guess all that talk about how Hamilton was getting bent over by the sneaky Pearl was all bunk. Makes that thread with all of the stupid housing market analogies seem somewhat irrelevant now.

no kidding. I got sick of hearing how Pearl made up the whole thing just to get a BIG raise. Well, I'd love to hear those people's thoughts on this so called BIG raise. There is no doubt he would have made way more at Memphis but stayed loyal to TN for far less...and what does he get for it? A bunch of whining and moaning fans to put up with that are always criticising his every move.

Pearl's restructed deal likely to start under $2M : Men's Basketball : GoVolsXtra.com

Looks like we are getting a deal! So much for Bruce taking Mike H. to the cleaners. Maybe there is hope of loyalty after all. :)

That's about what I thought...I was thinking 15 million over 6 years....so its a bit less, made up in assistant coach salaries I would guess. I still contend that he deserved zero raise, though I would have been willing to give the assistant coaches raises if he fired a few and hired ones worth more than the current staff.

Well luckily. They can carry on without your blessings.

Actually if he stays all 6 years it is 14.4, so you weren't that far off.

They both under-acheived.

I'm not sure that I would agree that Bruce's teams have "underachieved." Taking teams to the Big Dance and getting a couple of wins, while having to play Dane Bradshaw, Ryan Childress, and Jordan Howell, seems like an "overachievement," if anything. Look at our players from the past 4 years. When's the last time you watched an NBA game and saw "Wingate, Watson, Lofton, J. Smith, R. Smith, Crews," etc. on the back of a uniform? And, those were our BEST players.

We were young this year. Give it a year or two, and if we can continue to bring in the Scotty Hopsons of the country, we're going to be a tough team.
