The moronic substitution pattern once again reared its head tonight. When we finally look like we're putting UK on their heels by cutting the lead to 10 with 10 minutes to go, our response is to replace the catalysts of the run, Hopson and Williams, with McBee and Fields. The result: 6-0 run for UK and that essentially was game, set, and match.

yup.

why oh why can't we have 3 subs... why 5?

golden for goins
bone for tatum/hopson
BW for harris/fields.

it works for every other program.

SeanJean pointed out something very good...

we have 5 top 100 players on our bench... maymom, hall, mcrae, woolridge, and golden.

yet junior, mcbee and bone get 80% of the minutes. a D3 4 man, a walk-on, and a mid-major role player.

If we play like that CP needs to make a statement by pulling all 5. We can't do worse with the guys we don't play even lil Tyler. just for a couple minutes. The team had no focus and at halftime must have heard the same pregame speech.. they played the same.

Which should serve as a cautionary tale in recruiting rankings. Or that they just don't fit Pearl's style of basketball. Which...I'm not sure exactly what his style is anymore.

sure... hard to believe maymom or hall can't be more productive than junior... and troubling that mcrae can't get more PT than mcbee.

The sub patterns looked better when Tony Jones was head coach. Supposedly Steve Forbes was in charge of them then. Now Tony is back in charge of them. What also hurt was Steven Pearl got subbed in and matched up against Terrance Jones. Jones scored on him, then Pearl turned the ball over and Jones scored on the fast break on a pass with Steven trying to defend him.

I am a big supporter of Bruce and his results, but this is what drives me crazy. WHY ON EARTH DO YOU PUT SKYLAR AND FIELDS IN?

we go way too deep, the run down to 10 was the time to not sub anybody, leave a hot team on the floor and ride it out, see how far that run could have gone

Completely agree. Same thing happened early in the 2nd half when we cut it to 5. Out goes Hopson..

as long as bone is shooting the ball pretty well, i think he needs more minutes. I agree that taking hopson off the floor was a bad move... however Brian Williams was not playing well at all. he got a few buckets from good passes, but he could not create anything on his own. I think pretty much everyone agrees now that mcbee has no business on the court until he can consistantly knock down the three, and jr, while trying really hard, just does not bring enough to the team to warrant his playing time..

They need better players overall and they're not sitting on the bench. This isn't one of Pearl's better teams talent wise. To be fair to the guys though, they don't seem to be getting much coaching either. Same mistakes every game means something is not being taught or they're dumber than a sack of rocks one or the other.

Could be both.....

After reading this I'm even happier I went to bed at 43-30.

You didn't miss a thing. Ironic thing is every time i'd go back here to rant, they'd make a run at them. Then i'd ease back in there to watch and Kentucky would run out on them again. Maybe i should have ranted and stayed away form the TV last night all together:)

Ah....recruiting services, classic! Woolridge or Maymon are not even close to being Top 100 players. Who cares what they were ranked coming out of high school. Woolridge would be lucky to be considered one of the Top 100 players from California his senior year.

The substitutions are an obvious problem. It is hard to believe they cannot see this when they watch the film.Basketball is a game of momentum , why sub when your making a run? Makes me want to turn the channel.
