I hope UT puts alot of practice time in on how not to be penalized this year.
Last year against UGA, UT had 78 penalty yards compared to UGA's 35......
Against Bama, UT had 74 penalty yards and Bama had only 19.

Seems like certain rivalry games, our focus is elsewhere.

Agree, penalties got out of so many good situations last year. When the offense finally had a spark, bam, penalty. This again is what Cut was brought back to fix. He is about details and fundamentals.

Any watching practice see any specific drills to reduce penalties?

agree 100%. false starts are the ones that really pissed me off. and they would happen at the most inopportune time. 2nd and 2 turned in to 2nd and 7 which then led to 3rd and 6 or 7 and an eventual punt. most of the penalties if memory serves occured on offense...so combine that with the turnovers and dropped balls...we were the hardest team we played all year long. we killed ourselves regularly.

Very true. As bad as our offense was at staying on the field last year, a 5 yard false start might as well have been 25 yard penalty.

oh, man i can't tell you how many times last year i would get so pissed about a stupid false start on 2nd or 3rd down...and almost as bad were holding calls on 1st down. you knew we were doomed before the ball snapped after that. ugh.:realmad:

I have not heard the topic addressed by our coaching staff, but to say we were riddled with penalties last year is an understatement.:nono:

Cut has been addressing this issue since he stepped on campus! They've been working hard to get the entire offense to focus and not make those "little mistakes" such as false starts. You guys must not be paying attention to what Cutcliffe says when he's interviewed...

Actually living in the middle Tennessee area , I really haven't heard that much from Cut.For instance, one of our local papers manages to print only the negative publicity about UT.

i think it's pretty well documented that Cut wants mistake free football to be a high priority...and that would include penalites.

I remember when Riggs broke off a huge run to get us to about Bama's 4 yard line. That was his last run of the year. It was quickly erased, as our next two plays were penalties. I think we dropped back 15 or 20 yards. Pretty pathetic.
