Tom Penders resigns from his post as Houston head basketball coach after leading them to a conference tournament title and NCAA berth. Strange if you ask me. What do you all think? Is he looking for greener pastures?

Yeah, it's called retirement.

64 years old and has taken 4 teams to the NCAAs. I'd say he's earned it.

He said that it was because he thought he'd taken Houston as far as he could. The school has virtually no recruiting budget and its facilities are atrocious. Nothing has been done there since Guy Lewis left, as far as I can tell, and Penders hasn't been able to get them to either upgrade, or accept reality.

If Penders hadn't gotten them to the tournament, he probably would have been fired, even though he has done better than anyone had a right to expect. If he came back next year, they probably won't make it again and he would be fired. He decided he would go out on his own terms instead. If you know his history, you can understand how, for once in his life, he wanted to tell some place they could take their job and shove it.

So now he'll seek out another job and try to become the first coach in history to take five different teams to the NCAA Tournament.
