Patrick Chambers is the new head coach at Penn State. This is actually not a bad hire for the Nittany Lions.

They passed on Larry Brown, who told them he would take the job, to hire Patrick F'n Chambers. They should stop the charade and just make it a club sport.

Maybe they want someone who is going to be there for longer than a year....

Read the title, thought I missed something. Penn State has a basketball team?

I still find it hilarious their previous coach left to go to Navy. :birgits_giggle:

They passed on LB because of money from what I heard. Chambers will do good there, not great but good. Chambers was a good option for what they were willing to spend. The funds just aren't there for the basketball team like they are for the football team. Who would you have liked to see them hire with a high school coach budget?

but its like

Cold > Flu

Penn St bball will be irrelevant as long as Joe is alive.

Decent hire when you consider the school making it.

Lots of Richard Pitino to BU talk now on twitter.

Any Big Ten school claiming money is an issue is just fabricating an excuse. On BTN and ABC/ESPN revenue alone, they can pay whatever they damn well please.

Whats your beef with Chambers hat?
I may be off because I don't know too much about basketball, but taking Chambers over Brown seems a bit like passing on Jimmy Johnson to hire John L Smith after 2003.

I don't have one. It's just a ridiculously cheap hire by a school with Penn State's resources.

I don't disagree with that. I knew they would go this route, atleast for now.

Could Tennessee have had a shot at getting Brown?
In hindsight, probably not. He reached out to UNLV and Penn State. Vegas, because that's where he could live and not have to travel much to recruit and it's basketball's retirement community. Penn State, because he wouldn't have to move his wife and kids from Philadelphia. UT doesn't provide him either of those opportunities.

Hat, Penn state don't really give a crap about mens basketball... It's all about football and wrestling here.. They built the Bryce Jordan center in hopes that it would change, and bring in recruits. Once they figured that, that didn't work.. They pretty much gave up on it... It is what it is... If they have a decent season, great. If not, it's oh well, we're a football school... Thats the mentality up here...

Yeah, building an arena while paying welfare wages for a coach makes perfect sense. If you aren't going to make an attempt, admit it and pay some high school guy 100 K a year to coach.

Isn't that what they basically have done?
