6% of Tennessee HS players are div 1 recruits? That seems so high. That's like 3-4 kids per HS. Maybe I'm misunderstanding?

Have to keep population in mind. While 6.2 percent does seem high, the total number still pales in comparison to the likes of Florida, Georgia, and Texas and California who aren't even on the list.

Still weird to see, though. When you consider demographics, it's hard to believe we have a higher percentage than Alabama and Mississippi.

On average, I suppose it could work out that way statistically. There are some schools that have zero D1 recruits but others with like a dozen.

Looks like Tennessee is No. 6.

It's calculated by dividing players recruited by players participated.

@NCAAResearch

States w/ highest % of HS football players recruited by a DI school:
1. Florida
2. Georgia
3. Louisiana
4-8. (DC), MD, TN, SC, NC

Yeah, I guess I can see that. My perspective is skewed because I'm from Oak Ridge and we have a pretty strong HS program and I would say 3-4 is a max for us. I know we've had some graduating classes with as many as 4, but I would say most varsity teams probably have 2-3 as a whole.

We need a definition of "recruited." 9.9% of FL HS football players do not go on to play Div 1 ball. I would even doubt that that many even go on to play any level past high school. That's roughly 5-8 per team each year. Obviously, there are schools that will undoubtedly produce that many yearly, but they're outliers.

I didn't see the other thread in the NCAA forum. Moved here and merged.

They are basing the statistic off of players that have been put on the institutional request list to clear the player to play D1.

An Institutional Request List (IRL) is a list of college-bound student-athletes who an NCAA Division I or II college or university is interested in recruiting. The action of activating a college-bound student-athlete to the IRL informs the NCAA Eligibility Center of the institution’s interest in obtaining an academic certification decision for the student-athlete. We will not begin your certification unless you are placed on an NCAA school’s IRL.

While I can't find exact numbers on how many are placed on this as easy as the process is for a player to be added to it I would have to assume a significant amount of players are added that the coach has very low interest in. It also looks like it would include walkons.

What % of recruits would you say end up playing football though? It's probably pretty high for guys that get looked at by D1, right? 75%?

If you are at least looked at by a D1 school, that kid's odds of playing football somewhere are really high; I bet you it is 90 or 95%. I would think you have to be in the top couple percent of all high school players to even be considered by a D1 school.
