I heard somewhere he never bet on his team to lose. Can anyone confirm? If so, that's almost a pass, but probably hard to actually verify.

My understanding is that he admitted to betting on his own team but claimed he never betted against them. I can almost believe this watching his competitive nature growing up. He was one of those guys that absolutely hated to lose. RIP Pete Rose

He should have been inducted into the HOF as a player many years ago. Best player I ever saw play the game live many times when we lived just south of Cincinnati. RIP Charlie Hustle !!!

There were three better players during that time on his own team!

I still remember the batting order when I first started going to the games at Crosley Field:

Rose RF
Tolan CF
Perez 3RD
Bench C
May 1ST
Helms 2ND
Carbo LF
Woodward SS
and the pitcher.

(Note: the great SS Dave Concepcion took over for Woodward in 1970)
I also got Carbo's autograph back then. He lived in Erlanger, Kentucky just one street over from my house.

RIP to good ol' "Charlie Hustle"! Put him in the hall now! Should've done it long ago, but for Christ's sake, for his FAMILY he needs to be in there!

As a Braves fan, I loved it when Larry McWilliams and Gene Garber halted Rose's 44 game hitting streak in 1977 at Atlanta Fulton County Stadium.
