Peter Manfredo & 'The Contender'

Okay, now we've seen how the contender is doing all these great things for boxing. I've said all along it was a BS process with second-rate fighters, now Calzaghe has proven it....In my limited amateur career i didnt learn many lessons, other than how to get beat up by hispanics from the inner city, but keeping your chin down and hands up were things i mastered....Manfredo's strategy of "letting Calzaghe wear himself out" was a stupid one, especially since Joe went balls to the wall for the distance against a much more talented(compared to Manfredo) and harder hitting Jeff Lacy...Did Sugar Ray actually think Manfredo could turtle up for 4 rounds and come back to win enough rounds for the decision??

Now we need "The Latin Snake" Sergio Mora (dumbest nickname i've ever heard) to get Jermain Taylor, and get a beat down of the same magnitude, and we'll never have to worry about "Contender" fighters ruining good fight cards again. It's not a bad show, but let's not mistake these guys for world class fighters, either.

yep shows you what a joke the contender is. i compare it to a toughman contest.:)

I agree with this point, though more with Miranda than Pavlik, i feel he is much better with the power punches while moving forward than is Pavlik. Though this does not mean he will beat Pavlik, it gives him a better shot against JT.

Taylor seems to have forgotten how to move forward and punch off the lead foot. Albeit, to fight Hopkins and win (though debatable both times, i had the 1st fight for Hopkins) and Wright (I had 115-113 Taylor, Winky didn't want in in the 12th), One cannot be overly aggressive, as the old vets will duck, lean, and land a message-sender to the jaw if you rush in like a madman.

However, Taylor Outclasses the rest of the division (if you don't include Calzaghe) to where he should take an aggressive posture in these Mandatories and other BS fights.

On another note, how about Manfredo trashing Calzaghe in the post fight interview. Rather than take the "I was outboxed" or "I didn't train correctly" high road, he basically called Joe a punk. I'd like to see a rematch here in Connecticut at Foxwoods, 1/2 hour from Providence, and see Calzaghe finish him off, and get him out of the sport. Manfredo is a punk, and not beneficial to the well being of boxing.

Hey Peter, learn to know when you're outclassed and just beat..."Manny Paquiao is a great fighter, he moves his head and feet so good, and he throws hard punches, and disguises them..I lost tonight, because Manny Paquiao is a great fighter"---Legendary Mexican Erik Morales, after his (likely) career ending defeat by KO against Manny Pacquiao....

editors note...due to Golden Boy Productions putting on fixed fights, and henceforth Marquez defeating Barrera, i think there will be Morales/Barrera IV

I didn't even watch the fight, I knew what would happen.

I'll never in my life watch "Fighting", but boxing needs a long look in the mirror, that i'll agree with 100%....When you have De La Hoya promoting fixed fights, and he is seen as a savior, then theres problems
