An amazing guy. So glad he is a VFL. Peyton's parents did a fantastic job in raising their sons. The VOL nation has been blessed with a lot of great ambassadors, but with Peyton Manning and Pat Summitt, we have the very best.

It's always nice when Manning comes back to UT, but what did you expect him to say? He's not going to say, "UT messed up by hiring this guy."

It's pretty much the same thing he always says when interviewed about UT. I remember he was at the '08 Auburn talking about Fulmer having a plan....pretty sure he even said that about Dools.

From the summer of 2009:

"To be fair to Coach Kiffin, everybody is making a judgment either one way or the other already," Manning said. "I think we need to let Tennessee play some games this year and maybe not just necessarily this year. I know it's a long offseason and it's more time to talk and analyze.

"I'm trying to get to know Lane. I can tell from people I talk to how hard his staff works and how hard the players are working. They're excited, which is good. Everybody should be excited during this time. It takes some time to develop."

Sounds similar to what he said about Butch and the staff. There's nothing wrong with it, but it's nothing to jump up and down over.

love PM and think he's an amazing ambassador for UT and a heck of a football player. However, he has said similar things about every UT coach. That's just the way he's always going to be

As you would expect him to. He's not to say anything negative about the coach, especially before he coaches a game.

We expect him to say exactly that.

We are just commenting on the posters that use this as reason why Butch is a great coach.

When in reality he would say the same thing, no matter who the coach is.

And rightfully so.

It is worth noting that, with respect to the similarities of remarks Peyton has made pertaining to different coaches at Tennessee, nobody asked Peyton point blank (in today's conference), "Are you more impressed with Coach Jones, his staff and strategy for rebuilding the Tennessee football program than you were with those employed by Lane Kiffin and Derek Dooley?" Out of diplomatic considerations, Peyton may well have declined to respond, but, if you ask a generic question, you can expect a generic answer.

Everyone wants to pass judgement on what Peyton said. Can't you just enjoy Peyton and his return, and respect the fact that he said "I recruit for one school, and one school only, The University of Tennessee!"?

I'm sure everyone in the thread loves that he said it, but it's also fair to temper any excitement over something he says directly about any coaching staff. That doesn't really change the fact that he's a beloved and respected former player.

Peyton is 100% class. Look no further than how he handled basically getting ran out of Indy. He said nothing bitter or negative about the ownership and front office. He is a great ambassador for UT.
