I was just wondering was Peyton Manning the quarterback for the 1998 National Champion team?

How could one forget, especially Vol fans. Can't believe Peyton didn't get a ring in college. Guess he'll make up for it in the NFL-hopefully maybe 2! :eek:k:

I'm not a Vol Fan. I was just wondering... I live in Oklahoma and just like Tennessee when one lives in Tennessee or Oklahoma you're a huge fan of the best college football program in the state. Thanks for answering my question everyone.

He got an SEC champ ring in 97.

Ugh... yeah. Makes me sad to remember that Peyton wasn't the quarterback. But then I remember why Tee was my favorite. He had the extra demension of mobility.

No, Tee was never asked to win the game for UT. When Peyton was here I think everyone expected him to do way too much. In 98 the TEAM settled in and took it.

And because of it, many players resented him. That's why they took the attitude they had in 1998.

It seemed to me the defense played better after Peyton left. :banghead:

Weird. I thought the '99 team, on both sides of the ball, acted like brats who were interested in nothing so much as getting into the pros without getting hurt.

Yep. That was by far Fulmer's worst job as a coach - and one of the worst coaching jobs I've seen in the last decade of college football.

That '99 TN team, from a talent perspective, would probably destroy any team in the SEC this year. It was essentially and NFL team playing against kids...and they went 9-3.

Tee Martin was a good leader and made plays with his feet. But it is a little ridiculous to me to credit him as the reason we won the NC in '98. Frankly, I think we won in spite of him, not because of him.

fulmer has a few years at tennessee he has been great I say 10 years. I think payton has about that meany years in the nfl add it up payton loves the collage game and I think he will be ut's next head coach mark this down I have said it first.
