Peyton Manning

If the Superbowl or NC in college is the big game then I would say he's never played in either. I believe it is extremely rare where one player can "earn" their way in. On the other hand I don't believe he's ever "cost" his team the chance to advance which is the implication behind saying he can't win the big one.

Are you serious??? Do you remember the pass straight to Tony George, that George graciously took 75+yds to the house, securing Florida's victory? Did you watch Manning throw six INTs in 2 playoff games against the Patriots??? It is one thing to say that Manning is a good QB, but to claim that he is the best is more than a little premature until he does what all the 'bests' do, and wins championships! Ultimately, that is what professional athletes are signed on to do, and stats are just stats until they accompany that ring.

He was pretty wretched in the '97 loss to Florida. I don't think he's a choker, but he was culprit #1 in that loss.

I've never claimed he was the best. The consistent theme in my posts is that PM is unfairly (IMHO) labeled as someone that can't win the big game. I think that label was put on him early and it has wrongly become viewed as fact.

No, he was fairly labeled with it. He has won 1 big game in his career, SEC Championship. That is it. Other than that, he puts up pretty stats and sets all kinds of records that don't involve winning.

Now we're back to counting other games besides the Superbowl as big. If we do that then he has a list of wins in such games. You can't just pick the ones he loses (Florida in regular season) and say those are big but not count playoff wins.

Im sure denver fans were saying the same thing after elways 10th 11th 12 th year in the league. Geez, he still has a lot of years ahead of him.

You guys love to bring down those who do well and pin point every little thing that wrong. I love you arm chair qb's who probably could not throw to a guy who is being doubled team on a 3 step drop back fade pass with a corner blitz. When you guys can do what PM does on the field then i guess you are solidified expert.

Interesting perspective. If we follow your logic, unless everyone wants to sit around and talk about how great everyone is, we should just shut down all boards. I guess you've never criticized a politician, athlete, or anyone else who does something for a living different from you. Bottom line, facts are facts. As Bill Parcells, who I certainly think qualifies as an expert, is fond of saying, "You are what your record says you are." Peyton's playoff record reads 3-6. Interpret that however you want.

dude, the team went through so much at the end of the year, being called the greatest ever, then the biggest chokers ever, then dungy's son passed away, he was never the same again, then they didnt really play a game for 3 weeks. thats some hard stuff. nick harper getting slashed by his wife... i dont blame it all on manning but some of it is his fault. team effort= team loss not just peyton manning. I was surprised he wasnt picking up the blitz but also that o-line wasnt helping much.... plus it cant be all on manning, he didnt miss the game tying field goal did he?

I agree. I was just about to compare PM to Elway. Maybe it will take a while before he wins championships. Remember Elway couldn't do it by himself. He needed a great supporting cast. That's what worries me about the Colts' situation. Maybe players like Edgerin James have no more motivation and will leave instead of signing a new contract.

Peyton can't do it all on his own, it has to be a team effort! I have never been a bigtime Manning fan, but the man is GOOD! The offensive line wasn't protecting him as well as they should have, the kicker had a bad day, etc. The Steelers played better and won as a team.

Manning will never be as good as Marino. I don't care how many Superbowl rings he wins.

To those who are not the arm chair qb'ing pessimists: Peyton easily be 6-6 in the playoffs after next season. I believe he can do it. Who's with me? He still has alot of years left.

I think so.

The thing that really makes me mad about Manning is that he allowed the Steelers O to go for it and get 2 fourth and shorts. How in the world could he have let that happen.

Also to those who say he did not pick up the blitz!? I don't know what game you were watching or if you played ball. But he did call out the blitzes and protections but his hot routs were not there numerous times.

I see your points but it seems your agenda is to discredit Peyton. I will always admire Peyton even if he never wins another game. Oh by the way, in case academics means anything to you, he graduated from college with better than a 3.5. Now, that's a A in case you don't know. :dunno: Well rounded young man=Peyton Manning. Now, where is Steve Spurrier, oh thats right, he couldn't make it as a pro qb or coach.Oh well.Be sure to pull for Al Wilson and the Broncos this weekend a well as Demetrin Veal.(both UT boys).

The man deserves to be beaten.......That's a chip shot, he'd make that in his sleep....Ole Mike "choke em up" Vanderjagt......Way to go buddy, way to cost your team the Super Bowl!

Kickers have been proven to be undependable all year long. If you want to win a game, do it in the first 59 minutes and 45 seconds of the game with your offense and defense. Don't put it into the hands of a guy who had nothing to do with your teams production the entire game. Kickers should be shaking pom poms when they aren't kicking. That's about the only thing they are good for. I've been watching sports for too long, and it is more often than not that a field goal kicker saves the day for a team that got its butt kicked up and down the field all day. Pittsburgh deserved to win. They were the better team Sunday. And the other thing proven here is that FINESSE football always looks good, but gets you beat when it counts most!!!

Even if Vanderjagt makes that field goal, I think karma would have still went against the Colts. The refs were trying to give the Colts every chance they could, which I dont think was fair.

If I had anything negative to say about Peyton's performance, it would be that he never elected to use any max protection since what they were trying to do to counter the blitzing was not working. He seemed stubborn that he could get the job done the other way.

Since you have to critique everything that I post.......let me clarify what I meant so you can understand it. Manning can break every single record that Marino had, but he will never throw the ball as well as Dan Marino did. Does that explanation satisify you?

I know your post was not aimed at me but come on girl. Manning can make every throw Danny boy could and neither can/could scramble. The differences in the 2 are Manrinos quick release and Mannings control of the offense. Both are/were great qb's.

I'm a woman, not a girl.

Marino could scramble a whole heck of a lot better than Manning. Marino could throw the ball more precise than Manning. Marino will always be better than Manning.

I don't think I've ever seen the words "Marino" and "scramble" in the same sentence. :D
