Along with Texas A&M and Texas Tech and offered. He decided to go reunite with Tubby Smith and Texas Tech. Maybe they are going after best player available and not just a point guard. Remember, Cuonzo said he doesn't need a true point guard to run his motion offense.

Full disclosure I am a CCM supporter and believe he should have another 2 yrs.

That being said, if he did say this regarding point guard, do you believe this to be true or is it bc we most likely aren't going to add a decent point guard.

Any guard with good passing and handling abilities is what will help us the most. It doesn't necessarily have to be a PG, but that obviously best addresses what we need.

If he doesn't need a true pg to run his offense, then what exactly has he been running the past two years

This. Was about to say the same thing.

Coach Zo is :loco: if he believes he can run a point guard run offense without a good point guard. Despite having productive guys on the wings and down low it had not worked with a mediocre PG for two seasons.

I am beginning to believe CCM is a 90% defensive minded coach and doesn't think an offense is needed. Not a good philosophy for attracting the best players. If we don't need a true PG, then we need someone who can come up court and protect the ball without having it stripped from him and someone who can guard the opponents' small quick guards.

I am afraid we are in for mediocrity in our BB program. I truly hope I am wrong, but I haven't seen much to change my mind.

I believe I also remember Coach Zo saying that. IIRC, the context was a question about whether or not this Murfreesboro kid is a true PG or a shooting guard that would be forced to run the point out of necessity. I got the feeling, as you alluded to, that he was compensating for the fact that he is going to make the best out of what he has but that he's not actually convinced a PG isn't necessary. Like he was spinning a bit for the reporter. Of course, I'll go out on a limb and speculate that at some point he also said "score the basketball" in there. (cringe)

Personally, I don't believe for one second that Zo really believes his "system" (and I'm not yet convinced it's actually a system) can work without a PG making quick reads on the fly and probably also calling timeout when his coach seems to forget that you can do that.

Trae was a decent player but was also frustrating bc of the inconsistency - most of us had seen with our own eyes what he was capable of and just wanted to see more of it on a regular basis. That said, he also was in the news all 3 years for getting publicly benched, and more than once the question was raised publicly of where his head was at when it wasn't on basketball. Maybe Zo was just lamenting the fact that he had been trying it for two years without being obvious what he meant.

Now, commence with the judicial affairs jokes....I've set you up...ha

I dont think anybody would argue CCM could use a more offensive minded assistant. Honestly just somebody to work with our big men would be huge.

He has talked about this the first 2 years. I have not heard him talk about it recently.

Cuonzo said he didn't need a true point. Trae wasn't a true point.

1. When Trae played well, offense was fine. Proves to me he doesn't necessarily need a "true" point.

2. Cuonzo isn't the type to make excuses.

3. Offensive woes have been due more to recruiting and inconsistent play rather than offensive coaching.
